Chief executive officer of the Barbados Cricket Association, Noel Lynch, believes territorial boards should get a monetary share when the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) earns revenue from television rights for international matches involving the regional team.
“I think the best way to do that is through the gate. If England are playing the West Indies, and the WICB is making its money primarily from the television rights, then give us the gates. Lower the prices, let us determine how we market to our patrons. Let us decide how we are going to get spectators through the gates. And let us keep that gate,” Lynch told Barbados TODAY.
He suggested that the WICB could put a line item into their planning budget under a broad banner of marketing for advertising and promotion to accommodate his idea.
Lynch said territorial boards such as the BCA played a fundamental role in the development of cricketers and the regional cricket product.
PRIME MINISTER Dr Keith Rowley has bemoaned the state of cricket in the Caribbean, and has accused certain members of the region’s governing body, West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), of being “hell-bent on destroying West Indies cricket.” Rowley was speaking on the CNC3 Morning Brew yesterday morning where he spoke on the lack of involvement by CARICOM (Caribbean Community) in West Indies cricket.
In November 2015, a CARICOM cricket review panel, appointed by the Prime Ministerial Committee on the Governance of West Indies Cricket, recommended the WICB be dissolved and all current members resign.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Jerome Taylor has formally indicated to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) that he has come out of retirement and is available for selection for Test Cricket. This decision means he is now available for selection in all three formats of the game.
Last July, the 32-year-old fast bowler had announced his retirement from the longest version of the game.
“I believe I still have a lot of cricket left in me and I know I can still offer a lot to West Indies cricket in the Test arena,” said Taylor. “If selected, I will look to put my best foot forward and give my all for the team. We have some young players in the group at the moment and I believe with my experience, I can add to the team going forward.”
Taylor has played 46 Tests, taking 130 wickets at 34.46 apiece, with best figures of 6-47 against Australia in June, 2015 on home soil at Sabina Park in Jamaica. He has also scored 856 runs, with a top score of 106 against New Zealand in December, 2008 at University Oval in Dunedin.
Chairman of the West Indies Cricket Board’s Selection Panel, Courtney Browne, welcomed Taylor’s decision to come out of retirement.
“It is good to see that Jerome has decided to come out of retirement and make himself available for Tests once again. When you look at the volume of cricket we have this year, we will need to look at all the resources we have available, and having someone of his ability and experience adds value to our player pool,” Browne said.

The West Indies and Pakistan have failed to make the most of the opportunity to strengthen their positions for direct qualification to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as their One Day International series ended 2-1 in Pakistan’s favour in Guyana on Tuesday.
The West Indies won the first match with its highest ever chase of 309 but failed to maintain the momentum which could have taken it to 87 points with a 3-0 win, ahead of its rival by a fraction. Pakistan could similarly have moved up to 92 points, edging ahead of seventh-placed Bangladesh by a fraction had it won all three matches.
In the end, there was not too much movement as Pakistan gained one point to reach 90 points on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings to remain in eighth position while the West Indies lost one point to also remain on its pre-series ninth position with 83 points.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) – Left-hander Kieran Powell was in line for a return to Test action after being named in WICB President’s XI side to face Pakistan in a three-day game starting in Jamaica next weekend.
The 27 year old, who three years ago abruptly took a self-imposed break from the game, announced his return earlier this year by amassing a tournament-best 513 runs in the Regional Super50, with three hundreds.
He was subsequently included in the West Indies one-day squad but has met with little success, scoring a single half-century so far in five innings.
The WICB President’s XI, which will be led as usual by Barbados Pride’s Shamarh Brooks, includes out-of-form left-hander Vishaul Singh as vice-captain, along with the leading run-scorer in the first class tournament, Kyle Hope of Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.
