Kieron Pollard was the first pick from the list of overseas marquee players for the upcoming T20 Global League as Cricket South Africa (CSA) held a ‘mini draft’ on Saturday (August 26) in Cape Town.
Ahead of the main draft, scheduled for Sunday, the mini-draft helped the eight teams line up their marquee players, the eight South African stars having been allotted earlier.
Pollard, now engaged with Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League, went to Bloem City Blazers, while the other big Caribbean names, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo, were picked up by Cape Town Knight Riders and Pretoria Mavericks respectively.
The local marquee players for the three teams are David Miller (Bloem), JP Duminy (Cape Town) and AB de Villiers (Pretoria)

Trinbago Knight Riders used terrific batting conditions - a surface with even bounce and short boundaries at Sabina Park - to rack up 208 for 6, the joint-highest score of this season's CPL, setting up a 36-run victory against Jamaica Tallawahs. It was the Knight Riders' eighth win in nine games this season. Brendon McCullum led Knight Riders' charge with 91 off 62 balls, while Colin Munro and Darren Bravo made rapid contributions again.
An 85-run, second-wicket stand between Kumar Sangakkara, who struck his second consecutive half-century, and Lendl Simmons pushed Tallawahs ahead at one stage. However, both batsmen were dismissed off consecutive deliveries, and the Tallawahs never recovered. The Tallawahs remained at third spot on the points table with 10 points.

Kraigg Brathwaite and Shai Hope both scored superb hundreds as the West Indies secured a first-innings lead against England on the second day of the second Test at Headingley on Saturday. The West Indies were 329 for five at stumps, 71 runs ahead of England's 258. Opening batsman Brathwaite (134) and Shai Hope, whose 147 not out was his maiden Test century, put on 246 for the fourth wicket.
The Barbados duo's partnership was all the more impressive as they came together with the West Indies in trouble at 35 for three after James Anderson had dismissed Kyle Hope, Shai's older brother, to move to within five wickets of becoming the first England bowler to take 500 in Tests.
It was easy then to foresee another West Indies collapse, given they had been skittled out for just 168 and 137 during an innings and 209-run defeat in the day/night series opener at Edgbaston, with England taking 19 wickets on last Saturday's third day to go 1-0 up with two to play.
But having starred in a markedly improved bowling display to dismiss England on Friday, paceman Kemar Roach said he wanted the batsmen to follow the bowlers' lead.
They did just that, with Brathwaite and Shai Hope providing fresh vindication of the faith that West Indies coach Stuart Law had insisted he retained in a talented if raw side.

A match-winning 71-run partnership between Kumar Sangakkara and Andre McCarthy helped Jamaica Tallawahs prolong St Lucia Stars' win-less streak with a six-wicket victory to consolidate the third spot in the points table. The skipper shone with the bat, scoring his maiden half-century in CPL 2017 to help Tallawahs overhaul Stars' 172 with an over to spare at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Friday (August 25).
Defending 172, Stars had a torrid start with the ball as strike bowler Jerome Taylor kicked off by leaking 22 runs (12 of those in wides) in his opening two-over spell, albeit also removing Simmons in the process. Taylor's new-ball partner, Obed McCoy, was only marginally better in his nine-run opening over that included two wides and a six.
