Changes coming for Red Steel brand
There could be some big changes to the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel franchise come next year.
This is according to Hero Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 CEO Damien O'Donohoe who also revealed that there could be a shake-up for the 2016 tournament as the organisers try to keep the excitement going and break new ground.
O'Donohoe believes that after three successful seasons, the CPL has risen to become one of the leading T20 leagues in the world and wants the tournament to keep on rising.
He also noted that the fact that the owners of the Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have bought the Red Steel franchise is an indication of how much the CPL has grown.

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board has discontinued pursuing a disciplinary charge brought against West Indies opener Chris Gayle.
On January 11 this year, Gayle made public comments during a post-match interview that were critical of the selection policy of the WICB, when Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo were not selected for the West Indies team that took part in the ICC Cricket World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2015.
A charge was later laid against Gayle that he had conducted himself in a manner contrary to Rule 9 of the WICB’s Code of Conduct.
Rule 9 states that “players and team officials shall not make public or media comment which is detrimental to the interests of the game”.
The charge was referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the WICB which comprises:
-Justice Adrian Saunders (Chairman)
-Madame Justice Desiree Bernard
-Hon. Dr. Lloyd Barnett, QC, OJ
-Desmond Haynes
-Jeffrey Dujon; and
-Verlyn Faustin (Secretary to the Committee)
The WICB’s Code of Conduct also states that such a charge must be laid against an offender within 10 days of the alleged commission of the offence.
It came to the attention of the Disciplinary Committee however, that Gayle had previously been the subject of a reprimand for his comments and the charge was served on him outside the required time frame.
In the circumstances, the WICB has accepted the intimation of the Disciplinary Committee that the charge should be discontinued and Gayle has accordingly been so notified.

'The greatest party in sports' -- as the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) bills itself -- really is the greatest party in sports. As anyone who has been there can attest, there is no 'vibesier' experience than a Jamaica Tallawahs match at Sabina Park. It's a simply wonderful combination of music, laughter, conversation, and cricket lovely cricket. And kudos to the stadium shuttle bus system that made getting to Sabina such a breeze.
A few nitpickers have complained about the almost constant noise. Yet, the louder the party, the more fun people are having. It was a bit surreal to hear an official announcement to the effect that 'no vuvuzelas are allowed', while vendors walked around selling them and thousands were being blown. But TIJ (this is Jamaica), where normal logic seldom applies.
Cricket matches in the West Indies are all about maximum self-expression. And I personally love being part of the horn-blowing unison when Chris Gayle puts the bowlers into the stands. They better not try to take away my vuvuzela!

One fan has started an online petition for Dwayne Bravo to be sacked as Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel captain. He has so far received 33 backers, but Red Steel coach Simon Helmot will not be one of them.
Red Steel supporters were left frustrated on Tuesday night at the Queen’s Park Oval when all-rounder Bravo conceded 17 runs in the final over of the rain-affected Caribbean Premier League T20 match against the St Lucia Zouks to leave the T&T franchise with a four-wicket defeat and still planted at the bottom of the six-team table on five points.
Bravo’s side return to the Oval tonight to face Kieron Pollard’s Barbados Tridents needing a victory if they are to start pushing for a place in the semi-finals.
But yesterday, coach Simon Helmot defended his skipper’s use of himself in the final stages of games.

A sold out crowd braved torrential rain to support the Guyana Amazon Warriors last night at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence in the first of four Hero CPL t20 matches in the Guyana leg of the biggest party in sports.
But although the ground showed why it is regarded as one the fastest drying International cricket venues in the world by remaining dry when most areas in Demerara were under water, the persistent rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning caused the match against Jamaica Tallawahs to be abandoned without a ball being bowled with both teams getting a point each.
