Roston Chase is Test Captain

There is precedent for this: Darren Sammy could not make the team, yet he was named captain in ALL formats.

At least Chase is a real cricketer who is expected to contribute with either bat or ball. All Sammy did was spin the toss and clap while riding the coattails of the likes of Marlon Samuels to 2 T20 championships.

CWI have some explaining to do.

How can Josh be appointed the A-team Captain for the last yr 1+ with decent success and KB’s understudy for the test team and be overlooked.

What happen to the succession plan? Didn’t he just lead the Legion to the title ? Didnt he just lead Tnt fairly well throughout the recent first class season ?

Maybe he did not give the right answers at the interview, he probably failed the phycological test

Chase is 33. Probably 3 years as captain.

Josh lacked 2 key factors:

1 - He couldn’t make the 1st XI. He was dropped for the last test series against Pakistan
2 - He’s not Bajan

Imlach lacked 2 key factors:

1 - He’s inexperienced (never mind Holder was also inexperienced when he was made captain)
2 - He’s not Bajan

Josh was asked to come back to our local regional tournament and perform, did he ever with bucket loads of runs. He could have slotted in at 5 or 6 and play as batsman, he surely ain’t any worse than any of the other contenders.

Seem like Chase being next to Sammy throughout the CPL for SLK has paid off. No cricketing reason suggests Chase should make the test team much less Captain the team.

I am stating that the CWI felt more comfortable with Chase being the captain. Failing phycological test does not mean that a person is not of right mind, it might just mean the person needs to grow more to handle the job

They should name Seales captain, he has a Bim sounding name!!

We sort of saw the Chase selection coming but hoped they would have tried someone else; don't think he has the personality for success as a leader; he is between Shiv and Reifer.

Chase has had captaincy experience. I believe he has led at least 1 WI A team. I'm sure there were others.

Honestly....Josh was earmarked for leadership but his performances for WI have not been stellar. Josh averages 24.76 with the bat in Test cricket when he was dropped for the Pakistan series. Most WI fans had no problem with that and his replacement, Imlach, did very well behind the stumps in Pakistan

Chase hasn't played test cricket since 2023.

Like Josh, he was dropped for non performance. In 12 test series between 2018 and 2023, Chase averaged 18.62 with the bat, and 44.27 with the ball.

So he actually performed WORSE than Josh when he was dropped from the West Indies Test Team.

Today....he's captain. Go figure

Baffling. Sitting next to Sammy for a few yrs for SLK has its privileges. No one can convince me this isn’t a Sammy appointment. Seen this movie before.

I am not unhappy or surprised that Josh wasn't named captain.

It's a good thing that Kraigg Brathwaite is no longer captain. That's the positive from all of this.

Let's see how Chase does and wish him well.

Chase has captained many teams in short stints, remember most of his career he has been on teams with Holder and Kraigg B, so his opportunities have been limited. However, a person's demeanor usually indicates if he has leadership qualities. He has captained the A team, St Lucia in CPL and occasionally B/dos

The entire top 6 average 20 something except Kraig. Josh bats with the tail and under real pressure when the top 6 constantly failing. Why do they not drop the middle order. Carty got cut and it looks like it permanent. Josh has actually contributed to 2 test match wins that is a rarity in recent times. England and Australia. It don't make sense bringing in a guy that has not played the format in 3 years when you have been grooming someone for the job. Josh went back to FC and did all that he could to prove his worth to get back into the team. Let's hope he is picked as a batsman. It would be an absolute travesty if he is not. I will support Chase and wish him best of luck. I do hope he can lead from the front and inspire the team.
