The final nail in Windies coffin was the aborted tour of India. Mercenaries shaped players options since then. WI never recovered from those darkest of times when the tail began and continues to wag the dog.

allyuh so dumb. lara didn't blame the IPL.
He claimed that players tend to use the national team as a stage to garner attention from T20 leagues, as opposed to the culture back in his days, when cricketers used to rise through the ranks by playing domestic cricket, before earning an international debut.

If yuh listened to the interview instead of reading First Post's backward rubbish, you'd have heard Lara say he does not think the WICB has done anything to keep players loyal to the board unlike what india, australia and england have done. He blamed the exodus on the BIG 3 and David Lloyd, a member of a Big three country said the big 3 take all the money and that cannot be right.

Allyuh so ignorant...and Sir curtly ambrose said WI cricket is rife with ignorance, allyuh obviously wouldn't have heard lara say that the west indies would get a couple million dollars to tour australia, and Australia would tour here and the cost of the tour for them would exceed whatever measly figures that westr indies cricket board could conjure up as a profit, and australia toured the caribbean with the proviso that the west indies would tour australia. In the late 90s that system stopped because the ICC said each country would receive the same amount of money for travelling for a tour. So if WI got 600 US for a test down under, Australian players had to get 600 dllars for a tour of the WI and the WICB didn't have that sort of money.

it shows...especially when you're arguing that an australian who can't out down a subcontinental side in his own backyard is a great test bowler

Lara jus vex because the IPL displaced his short-lived ICL (that he abandoned the WI for).

I see lots of historical rewriting, excuses and BS from some who are guilty and some who side with home 'islanders' (pun intended for a few who know what I mean). But rhe undeniable truth is that the original 3 Bravo, Pollard and Gayle prior to Hilaire never, ever missed WI duties because of IPL duties. Those 3 were offered retainers with poison pills i.e. when not on WI duties they couldn't take up other contracts if local club cricket was being played! The rightly refused the fool Hilaire's stupid restraint of trade ploy and it set a template for their predecessors to have justice.
Das why when I see the revisionist history BS about our crickets point of final destruction starting with refusal of central contracts I just hiss my teeth.
Hilaire's attempt to cow players and restricting their ability to earn is what destroyed it. Oz, Eng, SA and other countries have players playing all formats and still play IPL. When Lanka and Bang tried to restrict stars they promptly resigned.
So, tell me who are the Real Spooning Hypocrites?
