KLAS sportscaster Orville Higgins has a look back at Jamaica's 50 performance in the NAGICO Super50 and assesses the side prior to the first class tournament.
Our biggest problem is at the top of the order. In a desperate bid to find the right pair, Xavier Marshall and Simon Jackson were both overlooked for the trials, while neither Brenton Parchment nor Danza Hyatt was deemed impressive enough. The selectors opted for Horace Miller and John Campbell, but neither of them truly grabbed the chance.
Fidel Edwards took four wickets and had two runs out while Dwayne Smith smashed a half-century as Barbados reached the final of the NAGICO Super50 tournament.
Smith smashed 61 off 37 balls with nine fours and three sixes as the Bajans eased to 182-3 in reply to Guyana’s 181 all out at Queen’s Park Oval on Thursday night. Earlier Edwards took 4-16 with the new ball.
Barbados will face Trinidad & Tobago in the final on Saturday at the same venue. First ball is 2pm (1pm Jamaica Time).
Summarised scores: Guyana 181 all out off 48.4 overs (Narsingh Deonarine 58, Christopher Barnwell 37, Anthony Bramble 34; Fidel Edwards 4-16, Jason Holder 2-35) Barbados 182-3 off 46 overs (Dwayne Smith 61, Kraigg Brathwaithe 55 not out, Kenroy Williams 40 not out)
The WICB has released the squads for the upcoming ODI and two T20s to be played against Ireland at Sabina Park. The squads are as follows:
ODI: Dwayne Bravo (Captain), Darren Bravo, Miguel Cummins, Kirk Edwards, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Nikita Miller, Sunil Narine, Kieron Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Marlon Samuels, Darren Sammy, Lendl Simmons
T20: Darren Sammy (Captain), Samuel Badree, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Krishmar Santokie, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith.
On a seam-friendly pitch, Trinidad and Tobago dismissed Jamaica for a mere 49 runs today in the NAGICO Super50 semifinal, themselves losing 3 wickets to Jerome Taylor in the chase. Dwayne Bravo and Ravi Rampaul removed Jamaica's top half, leaving Rayad Emrit to clean up the lower order. While the wicket rewarded good bowling, it was the lack of application that caused Jamaica's downfall. The total is the lowest ever scored by Jamaica in the 50 over format.
