A bright new future for West Indies cricket dawned last week. At least that's how the WICB interpreted the comprehensive overhaul of the ICC - initiated unequivocally for their benefit by India, England and Australia - that it enthusiastically supported ("after extensive discussions and careful consideration") at the directors' meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday in Dubai.
There is a certain irony to its ready acceptance of such a radical transformation to the way the world game is administered. Twice it has commissioned independent committees to advise on just such change to its own organisation. Twice it has utterly ignored them.

Tom Moody, the former Australia international and Sri Lanka coach, will venture into administration by taking up a role as director of cricket for the Caribbean Twenty20 Premier League following its successful first tournament in 2013.
However, his acceptance of a position that will dovetail neatly with his coaching of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and a range of television commitments does not mean that Moody is ruling out the England coaching role left vacant by Andy Flower.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Jonathan Carter scored his maiden century in 50 overs cricket to steer Barbados to a 28-run victory over host Trinidad and Tobago in the NAGICO SUPER50 Regional cricket tournament at the Queen’s Park Oval on Sunday.
Carter shared in two important partnerships for Barbados in reaching 269 for eight off the reduced 45 overs.
It was Barbados’ highest score against Trinidad & Tobago in a limited overs tournament.
Led by left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn 4-23 and pacer Jason Holder 2-23, Barbados restricted Trinidad & Tobago to 241 runs with nine balls to spare.
Earlier, Barbados won the toss and decided to bat in a match reduced to 45 overs because of early afternoon rain.

Labelling it "an abuse of rights", WIPA is reacting with "shock and disbelief" to the Barbados team management's expulsion of Kirk Edwards, following a meeting between team manager Hartley Reid, WIPA President Wavell Hinds, WIPA Director Michael Hall, and Edwards himself.
The crux of the issue appears to be Edwards' refusal to sign a document agreeing that the two match shirts and two match trousers issued by the BCA must serve them for two years, and that the player will stand the cost of replacement in the event of any damage to or loss of these items within those two years. From the WIPA statement:
Mr. Edwards advised us that he did not sign the document ahead of the 2012 and 2013 seasons because in previous years the kit barely lasted two months before getting to a stage of being unfit for use. Prior to his departure with the team, he was asked again by the BCA to sign the document in order to receive his kit, and he again did not do so. As a consequence he travelled to Trinidad without any official team kit.
Earlier, the WICB had issued a bland statement noting only that Edwards "has been withdrawn from the Barbados team". The BCA says little more, other than that the player was sent home "for disciplinary reasons".

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – The WICB today advised that batsman Kirk Edwards has been withdrawn from the Barbados team for the NAGICO Super50 tournament.
The decision was made by the Barbados Cricket Association on Saturday. There will be no replacement for Edwards.
Barbados play their opening Zone B match against Trinidad & Tobago at Queen’s Park Oval on Sunday. First ball is 2 pm (1pm Jamaica Time).
