Embattled West Indies and Queen’s Park off-spinner Sunil Narine will play in the 2016 domestic cricket tournament in Trinidad.
An executive member of the TTCB, said yesterday that Narine’s ban by the ICC was brought up at the last executive meeting of the board, but there was never any intention to ban him from domestic tournament.
Banned from international cricket by the ICC, off-spinner Sunil Narine could find himself prohibited from even playing for Queen’s Park in the forthcoming 2016 season if the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) executive passes a motion to extend his ban domestically.
Reports have emerged that a nationwide block on Narine was discussed at the last executive meeting with no firm decision made.
Speaking with Newsday yesterday mere minutes prior to a 6pm executive meeting, TT CB ist vice-president Dr Allen Sammy acknowledged that Narine was a topic on the agenda.
“I hear the president (Azim Bassarath) say something about Sunil Narine but I don’t know what is the discussion yet,” he said.
The official launch of the ‘Legacy & 007 Promotions ‘Unity Cricket’ Event scheduled for January 30 at the Providence Stadium was officially launched yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Pavilion.
The event includes a fun park for kids on the Tarmac, five softball matches among the best softball cricketers in Guyana and climaxes with the feature game, a T20 affair under lights from 19:30hrs.

Organisers of the Scotiabank/West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Kiddy Cricket programme have announced an increase in numbers of schools participating in this year’s competition, which was launched at Sabina Park yesterday.
Eighty-four new schools have been added, bringing the total number of schools in the programme to 224, and will see over 10,000 students across Jamaica benefiting from cricket expertise and a total of 2,240 students participating in the competition during the next two months.
The programme, which started yesterday at Sabina Park with preliminary games, Excelsior Primary taking on Rollington Town Primary and Mountain View Primary opposing Clan Carthy Primary, will continue through the month of February culminating at the Kiddy Cricket Festival in March.
The programme ends in July with a four-day training camp.
