BIRMINGHAM, England, CMC – West Indies suffered a humiliating innings and 209-run defeat in the historic day/night opening Test after losing 19 wickets in a devastating capitulation on Saturday’s third day at Edgbaston.
Resuming the day on 44 for one in their first innings facing the massive task of overtaking England’s imposing 514 for eight declared, West Indies were bundled out for 168 in their first innings despite an aggressive, better than-run-a-ball unbeaten 79 from Jermaine Blackwood.
Forced to follow on by 346 runs, the Caribbean side were then rolled over for a paltry 137 in their second innings with only opener Kraigg Brathwaite showing any resistance with a top score of 40.
On both occasions, the Windies were undermined by England’s seamers, with the innings failing to last 50 overs.
The defeat left West Indies trailing 1-0 in the three-Test series, further extending their dismal record of having not won a Test in England in 17 years.

After yesterday's disappointing show, Windies were again poor with the ball and in the field.
Alastair Cook's fourth double century in Tests put England fully in command of the first Test on a rain-affected day at Edgbaston on Day 2. Play was abandoned early after rain arrived at 7.30pm but not before Cook, who had begun the day on 153, had joined Sir Len Hutton on four Test double hundreds for England, the second most behind Wally Hammond who managed a remarkable seven double centuries during his fine career. When Cook finishes, he will be ranked alongside those greats as one of England's finest ever Test batsmen.
He spent nine hours and 22 minutes compiling his 243 before being eventually dismissed LBW to off-spinner Roston Chase on Friday (August 18). Marais Erasmus gave it not out, but Windies reviewed and Hawk Eye showed it to be crashing into middle stump. When the decision was reversed, Cook swished his bat in disappointment. It was an act which epitomised his hunger for runs. Even 243 was not enough for England's leading Test run-scorer.

JAMAICA Tallawahs prevailed in a low-scoring nail-biter last evening against the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence when the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) continued.
Amid a passionate, excitable crowd dominated by Warriors support, the hosts threw away their outstanding work in the field with a nervous batting display, losing the encounter by two runs.
Set 129 for victory, the Warriors reached 126-4.
Earlier in the evening, the Warriors, instigated by some accurate bowling, had restricted the tourists to 128-7. On a tough pitch for batting the Tallawahs’ late recruit Glenn Phillips was the only player who managed to score with some form of fluency, hitting 51 off 47 balls.
Timely rotation from the Warriors bowling unit saw Rayad Emrit, Rashid Khan and Steven Jacobs, all claiming two wickets apiece. Sohail Tanvir had 1-14 off his four overs, while left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul went wicket-less in his spell, which cost just 19 runs.
