Gibson 'not aware' of Glamorgan interest

The WICB has denied reports that Ottis Gibson, West Indies' head coach, is in contention to take over at Glamorgan. Gibson has been in his current role since 2010 and signed a three-year contract extension earlier this year, after interest from another county in Warwickshire.

Glamorgan are believed to have carried out a final round of interviews on Tuesday as they seek to appoint a successor to Matthew Mott, who is returning to Australia. However, the West Indies board rejected suggestions, initially reported by the BBC, that Gibson could return to the county he played for in the 1990s.

Mohammed, Dottin give WI win in opener

West Indies women opened the West Indies Tri-Nation with a convincing 23-run victory over New Zealand Women, thanks largely to Deandra Dottin's 52 and Anisa Mohammed's 5 for 12. West Indies elected to bat, but were quickly in trouble at 18 for 3 inside six overs. Kyshona Knight and Dottin began to rebuild with a 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket, before Sian Ruck dismissed Knight on 20. Stacy-Ann King hit 12 off 8 to lift West Indies to 104 for 6 in their 20 overs.

Spin trips up WI U-19s again

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Another batting collapse, again triggered by spin, put West Indies Under-19s on course for a four-wicket defeat in the fourth Youth One-day International against Bangladesh Under-19s on Monday here.

This time, the Windies Under-19 batting was undermined by off-spinner Mehedy Hasan, the Bangladesh captain, as they were bowled out for 143 in 46.3 overs on a typically slow, low Everest pitch.

Ray Jordan and Ramaal Lewis, the home team captain, grabbed two wickets apiece to make a fight of it, but Nazmul Hossain Shanto anchored the visitors to victory with 62 deliveries remaining, hitting 60 from 96 balls that included five fours.

The result gave the visitors a 2-1 lead in the series, after the hosts won the first match by six wickets last Monday at the Guyana National Stadium before losing by 63 runs last Wednesday at Bourda Oval and 198 runs last Friday at the Guyana National Stadium.

Good luck, Chadwick Walton

The West Indies team, bidding to recover its former glory in Test cricket and ODI cricket, begin a series against India shortly, and although it will be one of only two Test matches and three ODIs, it will be a series which will throw some light as to where they are at in two versions of the game.

Once the champions of the world in Tests and ODI, the West Indies are currently ranked number five and number eight respectively in the two versions, and, despite winning the World Twenty20 Cup, they are ranked number four in the Twenty20 version of the game.

And although that is better than it was a few years ago when they were ranked just above Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in both Test and ODI rankings, there is still a far way to go, or so it seems, to cross swords with the likes of South Africa, England, Australia, and India.

Cricket is such a game, however, that two or three batsmen, and two or three bowlers backed up by good if not brilliant fielding, can, sometimes, make the difference between winning and losing.

In Christopher Gayle, if he can again find his footing in the Test arena, in Shivnarine Chanderpaul, if he can keep on going, and in Marlon Samuels, the West Indies do have three quality batsmen, plus a really promising one in Darren Bravo.
