I was just going to ask if this wasn’t the same Guatemala team that Yard beat 3-0 to good reviews from one and all.

After that match, McLaren was praised so I’m surprised to see the comments (and the result today)

Just who are the one and all? The day McLaren hinted that Ravel Morrison (who is one of the best we have ever had in our footballing history) was not a part of his plan I lost respect for him.

McLaren, a JFF employee, sings for his supper so what you see on the field and in the squad is part JFF and part his antiquated biases. John Barnes could not work with JFF as he wouldn't succumb to their dictates, Coach Grimm, ditto.

I do not recall many here praising McLaren as you are intimating.

Jamaica's midfield has been a bugbear from all the games I have seen for the past four years.
I do not know what the coach is seeing but Gray is not a midfielder.
But he has to fix that major problem or the Boyz will not, even with a favourable group will not make
the WC.

What the coach sees in Gray as a midfielder is twofold. (1) he gets to start (2) he keeps Ravel Morrison out of the team/squad.
Just take a look at the midfield last night:
Gray - lacks the ability to go back to the defense get/demand the ball and matriculate the ball up the field.
Russell - as nimble as an elephant on roller skates on an ice-rink.
Bailey - Mr. Put his head down and dribble into opponents, slips and lose the ball.
King - has no business being their. King works best when paired at center back with Pinnock throughout the game. Ray Charles can see that.
Cephas - ala Bailey hold head down and try run pass a defenda. To his credit, on a few occasion, he held his head up and crossed the ball.

With those four in midfield, how will Brown get the ball?

Hope he works out the right personnel but I am just not optimistic. I saw where Guatemala made 9 changes from the team that lost 0-3 to Boyz.
Is the coach or assistants up to snuff with knowledge of opponents players.

Everyone knew Guatemala prioritized the Gold Cup, having already advanced in the World Cup prelims. They served up a second rate team in Kingston last week. McLaren's response is to roll out the same pathetic Gray, Russell, Bailey, Cephas concoction. His dislike for Morrison, and the JFF wishes to "buss yutes" will prevent him from having a world class midfield. If the attacking players coming in are smart, they should ask themselves, who will service me with passes "Busy" Anderson, Palmer, Gray, Russell, Bailey, McCalla? Lord help us.

I sey, give Speid the coaching job, he can’t be worse than McClaren!

But tell him to resign from his JFF executive position, the question is can we trust him to do the right thing!

The Jamaican saying, rubbing butter in puss mouth comes to mind!

He may wanna pack the team with Cavalier players!

Transfer money sweet!

That said, Speid is a smart guy - both street and book!

A domestic coach is not going to work. Biases and influences will run rampant.

The last time Jamaica finished bottom of a group was in 2009. At least we won a match back then. I doubt we will win any this time around.

The JFF are said to be highly dependent on Jamaica making it to at least the 1/4 finals. They need the funding for World Cup qualifiers.

If the team fails tonight I hope they fire this coach.

Can they hammer Guadeloupe, hope Panama destroys Guatemala, hope for at least a draw in their final game against Panama and hope that Guadeloupe can at least get a draw against Guatemala?

Seems very optimistic but we can only hope…

Not sure the JFF can afford to fire McClaren - unless it’s for cause (not living in Jamaica as required by his contract)

Blake bailed us out a couple times near the end. Bailey played nicely. The guy with the dreads I think his name is Anderson? Lucky he wasn’t sent off. But I leave the expert analysis to the football folks.

JAMAICA - - GUADELOUPE

1. Relax, it was only Guadeloupe that we took 3 pts from.
2. It was Guadeloupe, yet we looked like novices against the Brazilian 1970 team in the last 15 minutes.
3. We are not playing good football, and we are not a well-coached team. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional.
4. The midfield is non-existent. There is absolutely no creativity just players "doing a ting". They do not come back for the ball, and whenever Guadeloupe makes quick runs forward, the midfield area is sparse. Better teams are going to make us pay for this.
5. The defense was the unit making the connecting passes to the forward line.
6. You can time the team's transition from defense to forward with a sundial. The game was painful to watch.
7. The defense was helter-skelter in the last 10 minutes.
8. The officiating was terrible.
9. COACH - sing that Sankey and go get Ravel. Tell Blake and the other JFF personnel - "look, I know you guys have problems with Ravel but I really need him for the qualifiers". Watching Jamaica's midfield give me an eyesore.

4-3-3
GK - BLAKE - (8.5) - cannot be blamed for the goal and made some outstanding saves to preserve the Jamaican victory.
LB - BELL - (5.0) - unflattering display, poor decisions, and got exposed (courtesy of Gray/Cephas) as he took the brunt of the Guadeloupe attack in the first half.
CBL - PINNOCK - (6.0) - for most of the game, his usual steady self but as the backline leader, must share some responsibility for the assault we came under in the last 10 minutes.
CBR - KING - (6.0) - the game is growing on him, and as he partners with Pinnock, his game will get better. Made a few runs forward and good passes.
RB - LEMBIKISA - (6.5) - seemed hellbent on attacking and made a brilliant pass for the Jamaican goal.
LM - ATKINSON - (5.5) - just didn't impose himself on the proceedings and playing him in midfield (had to play him there as he could not make forward like squad and coach/JFF needed bodies - preferably local to keep out Ravel) exposed the folly of his selection as he was wanting in the positional aspect of the game.
CDM - LATIBEAUDIERE - (5.5) - is not the CDM answer as he was not able to clog spaces and force attacks wide. He doesn't offer much going forward, futhermore, he lacks the ability to ensure the team's defensive shape.
RM - RUSSELL - (6.0) - was good in attack and scored a good header from a Gray cross.
LW - GRAY - (6.5) - it should have been obvious to McLaren after tonight that Gray's position is wide left and nowhere else. You are not getting any defense from him, however.
F - BROWN - (6.0) - good movements into spaces and good hold-up play. He belongs at this level and will benefit from playing in a better league than the JPL.
RW - BAILEY - (8.5) - had four attempts at goal including a goal and a screamer off the crossbar from beyond the half-line. A bit too much dribbling though.

SUBSTITUTION
M - ANDERSON (Atkinson) - was very workmanlike during his stint.
LW - CEPHAS (Gray) - his selfish trait is of no value to the strikers.
F - ANTONIO (Brown) - he is just not ready to play football at this level. Whoever picked him should be ashamed.
RW - DIXON (Bailey) - he is not ready for this level of football, and it was only Guadeloupe.

Cephas is the Uton Dowe of Reggae Boyz football…fast and foolish

Atkinson is not ready…tired of the overhyping of JPL players..
