Chris Gayle has often professed his love for the Twenty20 format in the course of the last two years. Ever since he announced himself with a stunning century in the first World Twenty20 match against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2007, he has been one of the most feared players in this version. However, even by his lofty standards, in the last one year, he has been nothing short of extraordinary. In a format where it is almost impossible to maintain both a high average and strike rate, Gayle has done that with consummate ease for well over a year across multiple series. Gayle, who has not been selected by the West Indies team for a while now, has played in Twenty20 tournaments in India, Australia and Zimbabwe and scored over 1500 runs since the beginning of January 2011

New year ... but West Indies still sliding

Ever since they lost to Australia in 1995 to relinquish the world title, the West Indies, barring a few moments of brilliance, have been sliding and sliding badly towards the bottom of the pecking order. And despite all our hope, all our prayers, there seems no end to it.

Last week came the news that the court has passed a judgement in favour of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) against the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) valued at US$2 million and that followed closely on the news that the Guyana government had taken over the running of Guyana's cricket and that Guyana would not be participating in the Caribbean Twenty20 scheduled to start tomorrow.

Guyana back in CT20 tournament

WICB PRESS RELEASE: The Guyana Cricket Board, this morning, advised the West Indies Cricket Board that, despite its offices remaining locked by the Government of Guyana, it has managed to make some progress in being able to provide a Guyana team for the Caribbean Twenty20 2012 Tournament.
