St John’s Antigua — The West Indies Cricket Board’s Selection Panel today named the West Indies 15-man squad for the International Cricket Council’s World T20 Tournament in Sri Lanka in September.

The WICB Selection Panel has kept faith with the nucleus of the squad which defeated New Zealand in the recent Digicel Twenty20 Series in south Florida. Darren Bravo makes a return after missing the second half of the West Indies tour of England and the Digicel Series at home against New Zealand due to injury.
The squad boasts a number of the leading power-hitters in world as well as several world-class allrounders. The batting is led by Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard who are destructive in this format. Openers Lendl Simmons, Johnson Charles and Dwayne Smith have also done well for West Indies in the past at the top of the order.
The allrounders: Sammy, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell and Marlon Samuels, have all proven their quality with bat and ball in this format, while wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin brings a wealth of experience and know-how in this format.
The spin bowling department is led by Sunil Narine, who has excelled since his international debut last December. The other slow bowler is experienced leg-spinner Samuel Badree, who is the newest member of the squad, but has an excellent track record in this format at domestic level. He debuted against New Zealand in June.
The two main fast bowlers in the squad are the experienced Fidel Edwards, who offers firepower, and Ravi Rampaul, who can be called upon at any stage in the innings.

The WICB Selection Panel has recalled allrounder Britney Cooper, who has made a full recovery after suffering a fractured finger earlier this year. Cooper made a successful return to the game during the recent Women’s Regional T20 Championship in Jamaica.
Also back in the squad are teenaged leg-spinner Shaquana Quintyne and opening batswoman/wicket-keeper Kycia Knight, who both missed the series against Sri Lanka due to studies.
The team is again led by inspirational captain Merissa Aguilleira, who has been at the helm for three years as the Windies have made a steady climb up the ICC rankings. The Vice Captain is Stafanie Taylor the leading allrounder in Women’s cricket.
The squad also includes several other world-rated players: off-spinner Anisa Mohammed, left-handed allrounder Shanel Daley, world record-holder Deandra Dottin, and fast bowler Shakera Selman.
The Windies Women will undertake a tour of England prior to travelling to Sri Lanka.
The Windies Women will face England Women in five T20s. They will start with the first two games at the Durham ICG and Old Trafford, on September 8 and 10 respectively, scheduled directly before England men take on South Africa in T20 Internationals and broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The other matches will be played at the County Ground, Northampton (September 13), County Ground, Hove (September 15) and at the Arundel Cricket Club in Sussex (September 16).
The West Indies have been drawn in Group B of the ICC World T20 Tournament which will bowl off in Galle on September 26.

The New Zealand Under-19 cricket team have advanced through to the semi-finals of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup with a three wicket win over the West Indies which went down to the final ball.

CASTRIES, St Lucia — Jamaica received huge praise from officials of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) after their capture of the Regional Women’s Twenty20 Tournament on Saturday on home soil.
The hosts were crowned champions following a 16-run victory over main rivals Trinidad & Tobago in the Grand Final at Sabina Park in the Jamaica capital of Kingston.

Sri Lanka Cricket has once again foregone Test matches to accommodate its players playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to the Future Tours Program (FTP) Sri Lanka were due to tour West Indies in April 2013 and play a series of two Tests, 3 ODIs and 2 Twenty20Is.
But following a request from the West Indies Cricket Board that the series would clash with the sixth edition of IPL in April 2013 and the non-availability of its players, SLC which also has players involved in the IPL has agreed to forego the two Tests and instead play a one-day tri-series.
The series which will be held from June 13-25 would also involve India as the third team,
Sri Lanka is due to travel to West Indies at the end of the ICC Champions trophy in England.
