Hosts India made a rousing start to their Women's World Cup campaign with a demolition of West Indies, a show that deserved more than half a stand watching at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Their opener Thirush Kamini, playing her first international game in three years, pushed on from a steady start to make the first World Cup century by an India woman. Kamini also added 175 with fellow opener Poonam Raut - the highest such partnership for India in the Women's World Cup and also their highest against a Full Member team.

Darren Sammy's team will begin their 2013 programme of international cricket on Friday with a limited-overs series in Australia. Ask them privately and some of the West Indians would have probably been happy to still be back on their islands, easing into the new year. In December they were trekking back from Asia, having lost the ODI series 2-3 to Bangladesh after winning the two Tests. Now they turn up in Australia for five ODIs and one T20. One could well ask, why bother?

ESPNCricinfo is carrying the news that Clive Lloyd and Roger Harper have called into question the legality of electing a new president of the Guyana Cricket Board.

Protesting the move strongly, both Lloyd and Harper explained that the GCB had violated the orders passed by two different Guyana judges, which had effectively put a ban on holding any elections. According to the duo, the elections could not be called legitimate as not all the representatives of the GCB had voted, so there was no "quorum" as such.

James Faulkner's composure with the ball followed up an attractive batting collective to deliver victory for the Prime Minister's XI by 23 runs over the West Indians in an entertaining tour match at Manuka Oval. Faulkner's wickets closed out a chase that threatened at the start via Kieran Powell and found late life through the muscular hitting of Andre Russell.
Alex Doolan's fluent 87 had been the most substantial of a series of handy scores by the hosts to ensure a bounteous total on the friendliest of pitches, Usman Khawaja also showing himself to be in decent touch, after the local batsman Jono Dean had swung lustily from his first ball.
