The rain greeted the players at the ground, inevitably forcing a delayed start. Between, the scheduled start of 9am ECT and the eventual start time of 2pm ECT, there were two rare moments of hope.

KOLKATA, India – Shane Shillingford was a mere spectator from the sidelines when West Indies visited India two years ago and played three Tests against Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side.
He has returned to this south Asian nation for next month’s two-Test series against the Indians full of confidence and as a key member of the bowling unit, looking to pose a serious challenge to opposing batsmen that are brought up on a diet of spin bowling.
This has not daunted the 30-year-old off-spinner, but has strengthened his resolve to succeed in the sub-continent.
Chris Gayle said that the forthcoming Test series against India would be vital for West Indies as they try to move up the ICC Test rankings. West Indies, who are currently ranked sixth among Test-playing nations, arrived in India on Monday for two Tests and three ODIs against India and are scheduled to tour New Zealand in December for three Tests, five ODIs and two T20Is.
"The big occasion for West Indies is a chance to gain points to move to No. 5 on the ICC rankings," Gayle said. "That's our mission. I personally have never made a hundred versus India so I will be looking to rectify that, given my IPL experience also. But you can't discount their talent in players like Sachin [Tendulkar], MS Dhoni and so many more. A few of us are familiar with venues like Kolkata and Mumbai, which host the Tests, and these conditions and pitches usually stay the same."

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – President of the WICB Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron has showered praise on the West Indies Women’s Team following their capture of the Women’s T20 International Tri Series in Barbados, and has also applauded the large number of spectators who came out to see the recent Women’s T20 International Tri Series.
West Indies beat England by eight wickets at Kensington Oval on Saturday night, in the Grand Final watched by a crowd of approximately 4,000. Stafanie Taylor won the Player of the Match Award while Deandra Dottin took the Virgin Atlantic Player of the Series Award.
The West Indies will open their title defence against India in the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014.
The ICC yesterday announced the match schedules and ticket-sales plans for the Tournament, which will be staged from March 16 to April 6, 2014.
The West Indies' men will defend the title they won last year in Colombo, while Australia's women will aim to complete a hat-trick of titles after having won the previous two finals in Barbados and Colombo.
As many as 60 tournament matches (35 men's and 25 women's) will be played across Chittagong, Dhaka and Sylhet in the 22-day tournament. As in the past, the women's semi-finals and final will be held on the same day as the men's semi-finals and final, and at the same venue.
