HUBLI: Out-of-favour opener Gautam Gambhir cracked his first century in more than two years as India A came up with a solid batting display to take firm control of the third unofficial 'Test' against the West Indies A on Thursday.
Day two saw host batsmen dominating throughout as out-of-form skipper Cheteshwar Pujara's also hit a brilliant ton to remain unbeaten on 139 when the stumps were drawn. Giving him company at the other end was Abhishek Nayar on 10.
India A were leading by 66 runs in their first innings with as many as seven wickets remaining at the KSCA Stadium.
St John’s, Antigua – President of the West Indies Cricket Board Mr. Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron today explained that the WICB has taken a decision of seeking to ensure that tournaments which are commercially viable are staged in a manner which will allow for sponsorship partnerships while maintaining the wide distribution of developmental tournaments.
The WICB recently announced that the Regional Super50 Tournament will be hosted in Trinidad and Tobago from 2014 to 2016 and that the government of Trinidad and Tobago through the Ministry of Tourism has committed to playing a major role in the execution of the tournament.
“The Regional Super50 is perhaps the WICB’s most attractive regional cricketing product given the phasing out of the Caribbean Twenty20,” President Cameron noted.
“We want to ensure that this tournament is scheduled and framed in a way which will ensure that we secure valuable sponsorship partners and that is the strong commitment which we have from the Ministry of Tourism in Trinidad and Tobago,” Cameron explained.
HUBLI: On a day of fluctuating fortunes, West Indies A batted brilliantly in first two sessions before India A bowlers fought back strongly in the last session of the first day's play to share the honours in the third unofficial Test at KSCA Stadium on Wednesday.
Put in to bat, West Indies A were bundled out for 268 in their first innings after a spirited bowling by the Indians in the post-tea session, which saw them picking up last five wickets for just 28 runs.

Former West Indies offspinner, Lance Gibbs, believes that the West Indies need to build their current team around Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the West Indies batsman, if Test success is to come into the frame once more, as November's India tour looms.
Gibbs indicated that Chanderpaul's experience and talent are the right ingredients to nourish younger batsmen such as Kirk Edwards and Darren Bravo in the subcontinent. "Chanderpaul is one of our premier batsmen - the premier [one] actually," Gibbs said. "We need to bat around him and mature these inexperienced players in his presence. That maturity is not there right now but, as with many teams, we all have our ups and downs, but now we need to turn that proverbial corner which everyone always speaks of, every time we do well."
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Teenager Shaquana Quintyne had the best allround performance of her international career as West Indies Women beat New Zealand Women in the second One-Day International at Sabina Park on Tuesday.
The West Indies won by 89 runs as they rebounded from the narrow one-run defeat in the first match on Sunday. The series is now level 1-1 with the decider to be played on Thursday at Sabina Park.
The 17-year-old Quintyne topscored with 29 off 58 balls as the Windies recovered from 95-8 to post 148. She added a crucial stand of 43 for the ninth wicket with Shakera Selman, who also played well to make 22 in her 50th ODI.
Leg-spinner Quintyne then took 2 wickets for 9 runs off four overs as New Zealand were bowled out for a meagre 59 off 28.5 overs. Other good performances came from off-spinner Stafanie Taylor (8-3-10-3) and left-arm spinner Shanel Daley, who bowled 6-0-14-2 with the new ball. There were also two run outs by the athletic Deandra Dottin.
