Embattled West Indies batsman Darren Bravo was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) yesterday at the Indian Premier League 2017 auction in India but the left hander will now have to get clearance from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to play. Bravo was picked up for US$74,00 (TT$500,000) for the 2017 IPL but the batsman is currently under suspension from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for his alleged offensive tweet against the WICB president Dave Cameron. He was sent home from the tour of Zimbabwe and since then has not been allowed to play for the Caribbean side or in regional cricket. Bravo, 28, did not sign a retainer with the WICB but as an active player he still needs to apply to the WICB for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) in order to play in the IPL. Even if Bravo decides to take the route of retiring from international cricket, he still needs an NOC from the WICB for two years after his date of resignation.
Kolkata Knight Riders came out in support of Andre Russell in the Indian Premier League auction in Bengaluru on Monday (February 20) after the all-rounder was banned for a year for violating the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) whereabouts clause. Russell won't be available for the tenth edition of the IPL for the franchise. Even with no clarity over the retention rule for the next edition, and with most players set to go into the auction pool, Knight Riders decided to retain Russell. The franchise could have easily released him and went into the auction with an increased purse but revealed they are keen on retaining him. What they did best was work their strategy around it and acquire the services of Trent Boult, Chris Woakes and Nathan Coulter-Nile to fill the void. "It's unfortunate that Russell has received a sanction for what I would call an administrative error," Venky Mysore, the CEO of Knight Riders, said. "There has been a slip-up somewhere and I know it's not his fault. He can't play this year, but we haven't released him. Next year, depending on retention rules, we'll try and keep him with us."
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board’s Selection Panel today announced the 15-man training squad for the upcoming ODI Series against England.
The Panel also announced the West Indies Cricket Board’s President’s XI 12-man squad to face England in a 50-over match.
The 15-man squad will have a camp in the build-up to the three-match rubber against the visitors. The squad will arrive in Antigua later this week and will work under the guidance of new Head Coach Stuart Law.
The WICB President’s XI will play against England on Monday, February 27 at Warner Park in St Kitts.

Cameron, who returns unopposed as WICB president for a third consecutive term later this year highlighted several other notable achievements in 2016 which he said have placed the regional game in an enviable position. “No cricket board in the world can boast of holding three ICC championships at any one time as West Indies do, and we must commend ourselves as last year was very big for regional cricket,” said Cameron.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua, (CMC) – West Indies batsman Shai Hope struck his second hundred in three days as Barbados Pride crowned themselves Regional Super50 champions with a commanding 59-run win over a listless Jamaica Scorpions in the championship final here last night.
In a day/night contest at Coolidge Cricket Ground which failed to live up to the anticipated expectations of a thriller, Pride overcame a batting stutter to dominate the Scorpions with bat and ball, and pick up their second regional 50-overs title in four years. The victory also made up for their disappointment in last year’s campaign when they lost to Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the final. Choosing to bat first, Pride were propelled to a competitive 271 for nine off their 50 overs by Hope’s 101, the 23-year-old’s third List A hundred.
