I can't put into words the disappointment I feel with this
last-ball loss in the ICC Champions Trophy tournament game against
the number two rated South Africa. Sir Carl, if you are reading
this, I need to have a few words with Chanderpaul and Dillon;
preferably together. See if you can arrange that for me. Thanks.
One hour should be fine.
For the folks who say look on the bright side, I say buzz off. I'm
mad as hell. You only get so much opportunities in a
lifetime. Hopefully we can erase the bitter memory of this
loss by winning the first game against South Africa in the World
Cup.

This is just a quick note to let everyone know about West
Indians and the way we love the game of cricket.
I am stationed on USS La Salle, a U.S Navy ship based in Italy. I
thought I would never be able to play cricket again after I left
Guyana but I quickly found out how much this game means to all of
us in the West Indies.

A few months ago, I wrote a column expressing my displeasure at
the clandestine manner in which the West Indies Cricket Board
carried out most of its functions, and had suggested quite
emphatically that that was an area which needed to be revised, for
fluidity to exist in our cricket.
I opined that team selection and other such important elements of
our cricket, had taken on too much of a mafia-like aura, and would
eventually bring integrity and fairness of process into question.
By no means would I profess to be a soothsayer, but from all
indications my opinion, if not prediction, was justified.

Former West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh and Red Stripe
Bowl-winning Barbadian players Floyd Reifer, Philo Wallace, and Ian
Bradshaw have been invited to appear at the 2002 Milo/Melbourne
cricket festival later this month in Jamaica.
Walsh and young West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels will be opposing
captains for the September 29 match that has a Jamaica side facing
a Melbourne Invitational XI at the club?s ground.

Last week, we brainstormed the West Indies team that was picked
for the India tour and published an article entitled "The Obvious,
The Chosen, The Unlucky...". Ever since the publication of that
viewpoint, many readers shot back their own thoughts on the
team.
Our readers also wrote to have a say in our tribute to Nizam Hafiz,
the former Guyana and USA cricket who lost his life on September 11
while at work at the World Trade Center. Here is a sampling of the
letters we received:
