After the Housecleaning...

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has decided to clean house. Roger Harper is gone and now captain Carl Hooper has been sacked, leaving manager Ricky Skerritt as the sole survivor of the leadership triumvirate that presided over some of the darkest days in West Indies cricket.

By going back to Brian Lara and opting to give the head coach job to Australia's Bennett King -- the first time a foreigner will coach the Caribbean side -- the board has made it clear it's time to think outside the box and plan definitely for the future. These are decisions that should be applauded throughout the Caribbean.

Hooper Sacked; Aussie to Coach Windies

BREAKING NEWS:

The West Indies Cricbet Board (WICB) has sacked Carl Hooper as captain for the upcoming Australia and New Zealand home tours and given the captaincy to champion batsman Brian Lara.

The board's bombshell announcement also included news that Australian academy coach Bennett King had been chosen to replace Roger Harper as team coach. Incumbent manager Ricky Skerritt has been retained while the WICB promoted Ramnaresh Sarwan to serve as Lara's deputy. The board also announced Gus Logie would serve as assistant coach.

Wallace's 137 Leads B'dos to 1st Innings

Veteran opening batsman Philo Wallace smashed his 12th first-class hundred and shared in a crucial fifth-wicket century partnership with captain Courtney Browne, as Barbados gained first innings lead over Trinidad & Tobago on the second day of the Carib Beer International Shield semifinal at Kensington Oval.

By the close, Barbados who are seeking a double title after winning the Carib Beer Cup with a match to spare, were 288 for seven, in reply to Trinidad & Tobago's 258 all out, after they had resumed on 250 for nine. At the crease are Vasbert Drakes on 11 and Pedro Collins, one.
