WI selectors spring surprises for Abu Dhabi, NZ

The West Indies Cricket Board on Friday announced the teams for the upcoming One-Day Series against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and the two Tests in New Zealand.

The Team will play against Pakistan on Wednesday, November 12; Friday, November 14 and Sunday, November 16. The two Tests in New Zealand will be at Dunedin (December 11-15) and Napier (December 19-23) to be followed by two T20 Internationals and five ODIs.

Gayle named captain of Stanford Superstars

Chris Gayle will create history as the first captain of the Stanford Superstars team when he walks out to toss with England captain Kevin Pietersen for the unprecedented US$20 million clash on 1st November.

The Sir Vivian Richards led Stanford Superstars Selection Panel selected the Jamaican captain and opening batsman as leader of the Stanford Superstars for the duration of the Stanford Super Series starting on October 25th when the Stanford Superstars take on Trinidad and Tobago, the reigning Stanford 20/20 champions.

While the media concentrates on whether the much-hyped Stanford 20/20 for 20 will go ahead, the arbitration decision will have massive ramifications in the Caribbean.

For the two corporations - Digicel and Stanford - this was a fight over branding. To their two high-profile bosses - Allen Stanford and Denis O'Brien - it was also about egos and image. The sums involved are, to them, small.

Game on: Stanford inks Digicel deal

Tony Cozier is reporting in today's Trinidad Express that the Stanford 20/20 for $20 million game is definitely on after the negotiationg of a "commercial agreement" between Digicel and Stanford organisers.

The agreement is to go before the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) directors for ratification when they meet in St Lucia today, clearing the way for go-ahead.
