Shivnarine Chanderpaul might have picked up a host of honours at the West Indies Players' Association awards but in doing so he infuriated both his own team and his opponents in their ongoing Carib Beer Series match. Chanderpaul was unbeaten on 78 at stumps on the first day of Guyana's home game against Windward Islands when he departed for the awards ceremony in Trinidad.

It is indeed an honor for me to be here with you here tonight sharing in this evening of celebration, and as a former player I would first like to use this opportunity to say congratulations to all those players who have been nominated for awards tonight and especially to those who have won their various categories. I wish all of you continued success both on and off the field of play.

Seepersad Naipaul, the father of V. S., as a reporter for the Trinidad Guardian, began many of his stories climactically. "Amazing scenes were witnessed yesterday," became his trademark opening, and thinking about his penchant for finding the unusual in every story he pursued, I wondered what he would have been like as a cricket reporter. Not in his time, but in ours.
The final round Carib Beer Series match between Guyana and Windward Islands will now start Saturday, after the visitors' luggage failed to arrive on the designated flight, CMC Sports is reporting.
The Windwards, who arrived Wednesday, had been expected to get their luggage Thursday but it did not arrive then either.
