As the ICC World Twenty20 tournament gets underway today in the West Indies, the host team is struggling with several injury concerns. From the Trinidad Guardian:
Skipper Chris Gayle revealed at the pre match press conference at the Pegasus Hotel yesterday his team is on the backfoot at present. "Currently we are on the backfoot, as we have injury concerns with three of our players. Suliemann Benn picked up a shoulder injury in the warm-up match and he is struggling at the moment. Wavell Hinds has twisted his ankle and Jerome Taylor is still not up to scratch with his injured shoulder."

West Indies allrounder and vice captain Dwayne Bravo is enthusiastic in a press release from windiescricket.com ahead of the ICC World Twenty20:
"This is a big tournament, a very important tournament for us! We are really, really looking forward to this event. It is an open tournament, all the teams are good and have a good chance, but we believe we have the ability to go all the way. As West Indians we are all looking forward to the next two weeks … so we as a people can showcase to the world what we are all about. As a player, I am up to the challenge and we will be trying to have a better ICC World T20 Tournament than we did last year in England . Last year, we had a decent time reaching the semi-finals and that was very good. This time around we are at home and we want to use home advantage and go further."

Another possible showdown between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA) was averted last week.
The details of the dispute have become public following the circulation of a confidential letter sent to players by Chief Executive Officer of the WICB, Ernest Hilaire.
