WICB releases list of contracted players

Following a "thanks but no thanks" from several key players, including West Indies captain Chris Gayle, the West Indies Cricket Board has released a list of players that it has contracted for the next year.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the only player on the list with an 'A' contract. 'B' contracts were awarded to Sulieman Benn and Darren Sammy, and the following players have signed 'C' contracts:

Kemar Roach, Brendan Nash, Adrian Barath, Darren Bravo,  Shane Shillingford,Nikita Miller, Devon Smith, Ravi Rampaul, Nelon Pascal, David Bernard Jr, Andre Russell, and Carlton Baugh.

The board's press release also notes that the following players have signed Developmental Contracts for the same period: Kirk Edwards, Gavin Tonge, Andre Fletcher, Chadwick Walton, Devendra Bishoo, Assad Fudadin, Imran Khan, and Kevin Stoute.

WIPA: Sarwan deserved retainer contract

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE WEST INDIES PLAYERS ASSOCIATION:

WIPA condemns the exclusion of Ramnaresh Sarwan from the list of players to be retained by the WICB for 2010-2011, in light of conflicting statements by the Chief Executive Officer of the West Indies Cricket Board, Dr. Ernest Hilaire. Since Mr. Ramnaresh Sarwan is one of the most senior and experienced batsmen in the West Indies cricket team, the Board’s decision has been questioned by “experts” and other fans alike.
