'I want to bring passion and energy to the captaincy'
New Test captain Darren Sammy said that he wants to lift the energy level and bring more passion to the West Indies team.“One thing I know for sure is I want to bring lots of energy. I don’t think I could be on a cricket field, despite what’s happening, and not show that fighting spirit and that passion,” Sammy said at his first media conference as West Indies captain.
With Darren Sammy as captain, it's renewal time

When I said a year ago that Darren Sammy should lead the West Indies cricket team, I based my conclusion primarily on the need to entrust the leadership of the region’s most important cultural institution to someone who understands that cricket for us in the Caribbean goes beyond the boundary.

The West Indies Cricket Board announces that Darren Sammy has been appointed West Indies captain.
"We are at the dawn of a new era in West Indies cricket and the Selection Committee has entrusted the challenging job of captaincy to Darren Sammy because it is believed that he has demonstrated the attributes of a leader of this diverse group of men,” said Selection Committee Chairman Clyde Butts.
