The West Indies Cricket Board's Chief Executive Officer Ernest Hilaire painted a glum picture of the short term future of West Indies cricket in an address at UWI's Cave Hill Campus in Barbados. He predicted "three more years of embarrassment still to witness".

"I listen to our players speak, and they speak of money, that's all that matters to them - instant gratification," Hilaire said during a panel discussion on the topic 'Nationalism and the Future of West Indies cricket' at the University of the West Indies in Barbados. "There's no sense of investing in the future coming from them. We are producing young people in the region that we expect, when they play cricket for the West Indies, to be paragons of virtue. That just won't happen.

Benn benched by Gayle

West Indies spin bowler Sulieman Benn managed to annoy skipper Chris Gayle enough to get sent off the field. From the Trinidad Express: 

’I actually asked him to leave the field,’ Gayle admitted in the post-match press conference.

’As a captain, it was a situation like you ask a particular bowler to do it and he said he never done certain things before,’ Gayle explained.

’That why you have practice sessions to practice. I asked him to simply bowl over the wicket. I don’t see why it should be a problem.

’He wasn’t up for it and if you’re not up for it, why give that particular bowler the ball. It was my call to actually ask him to leave and tell him that he is not needed anymore,’ added Gayle.
