What are we to make of a young man who walks around for two years
with a tiny bit of tattered rag given to him by Steve Waugh? Seems
to me he has the big dream!
Marlon Samuels' batting in that final one-dayer in India was
extraordinary, to say the least, and much has been said and written
about it. In truth though, those of us who have watched the 21
year-old Samuels down the years would have known that once he kept
his head, batting such as he showed in that one-dayer and in his
maiden Test century two weeks before that, was bound to come.
The Queen's Park Oval will be given an estimated TT $8 million
face-lift as the Queen's Park Cricket Club gets ready to bid for
the big games in the 2007 World Cup competition.
The QPCC management has started redevelopment work of the Carib
Stand, which, it is hoped, will be completed in time for the
Australian tour of the Caribbean next year. Three stands, the
Pavilion, the Geddes Grant Stand, and the Carib Stand will be the
starting point for TT$8 million upgrading that will see the Queen?s
Park Oval in line with the premier facilities of the world.

West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle took the Jamaica Cricketer
of the Year award for 2002 at the Jamaica Cricket Association's
(JCA) annual awards ceremony on Tuesday night.
Gayle, 23, is on tour of India and Bangladesh with the Windies. In
his absence, his father, Dudley Gayle, and brothers, Andrew and
Wayne, collected the $50,000 cheque donated by KFC.
Trinidadian captain and opener Daren Ganga gets a chance to make
his claims to a World Cup berth when the West Indies open their
Bangladesh tour tomorrow. Ganga, along with allrounder Mahendra
Nagamotoo, has been named in the final eleven for the first ODI in
Chittagong led by Ridley Jacobs.
Ganga comes in as Shivnarine Chanderpaul is forced out of the ODI
series due to split webbing incurred in the final against India
last week. It is not known whether the batting will be shuffled to
accomodate Ganga at the top of the order or if the 22 year old will
play lower in the order.
