West Indies spin bowler Mahendra Naga-mootoo is recovering after
sustaining injuries in a vehicular accident in Guyana last Friday.
The 26-year-old Nagamootoo was resting comfortably when members of
his family and fellow West Indies cricketer, Jamaican Ricardo
Powell, visited him at the St Clair Medical Centre.
The West Indies selectors have recalled wicketkeeper Ridley
Jacobs and left-arm seamer Pedro Collins to the team for the third
Test in Barbados starting next Friday.
While the inclusion of Jacobs comes as no surprise -- his
replacement Junior Murray was a complete failure in the first two
Tests -- Collins' pick to replace the discarded Marlon Black is
sure to raise eyebrows around the Caribbean.
Last Monday I was a guest on Jeff Broome?s 'Tell It Like It Is'
VOB program. Needless to state, the topic was cricket.
The callers including regulars such as the economist, Julian Hunte,
and Mr St Andrew spoke passionately and convincingly, but there was
one recurring theme ? the perception that there is a
plot/strategy/conspiracy to exclude Barbadians from the West Indies
team.

India continued to struggle as they slumped to 73-7 on the second
day of their tour match against a Busta XI. The tourists face the
follow-on after their opponents made an impressive 437.
The Indians need 215 more runs with three wickets in hand to make
the hosts bat again, with Dinesh Mongia unbeaten on 25 and
tail-ender Sarandeep Singh on one.
Looking to force a recall to the senior West Indies team,
Jamaican left-hander Wavell Hinds struck an unbeaten 140, teaming
up with opener Devon Smith (91) to lead the Busta Cup XI to 250-2
against India in St Lucia.
Hinds, who has appeared in 20 Tests (1,052 runs, avg 29.50), was
the dominant partner in a 215-run second wicket stand with the
Smith, the young Windward Islands batsman who is himself battling
to crack into the senior team.
