The one-day series between Australia and hosts West Indies will
feature seven matches of exhilarating and keen cricket between two
teams, one at the peak of its powers and the other struggling to
stay afloat in the international arena.
Australia was unbeaten throughout the World Cup, winning their
10 matches with relative ease, excepting their nail-biting episode
against England in the early rounds while the West Indies, betrayed
by lack of flexibility in their team selection and captaincy, went
out after the Group stage.
Embarrassed by the poor nature of the Kensington Oval wicket for
the third Test between West Indies and Australia, the Barbados
Cricket Association (BCA) has admitted the wicket was sub-standard
but president Stephen Alleyne isn't about to criticise curator
'Prof' Edwards.
According to a report in the Barbados Nation, Alleyne
admits the wicket was not up to snuff and promised to ensure the
pitch for next season's Test match against England is of a "high
standard."
Officials of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) and the St
Catherine Cricket Club have rejected suggestions that they
neglected to act when questions about Jermaine Lawson's bowling
action were publicly raised four years ago.
In an article published in the Barbados Nation on Monday, the
highly respected cricket writer and commentator, Tony Cozier,
charged that the young fastbowler's reputation was now being
"besmirched because blinkered administrators refused to acknowledge
there was a problem with his action in his formative years and did
nothing to help him".

Experienced West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine
Chanderpaul will miss the entire seven-game ODI series against
Australia because of a broken finger on his left hand.
The Guyanese left-hander, who made a scintillating century with
the broken finger in the fourth Test match, underwent surgery on
Wednesday in Jamaica and will be out of action for at least six
weeks.
