Chattergoon: Gayle gave me confidence

Despite Chris Gayle having a poor record against Sri Lanka, debutant West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon said his captain gave him confidence to play his first innings in Test cricket.

"He has been struggling against Sri Lanka but he is a world class batsman and he can come out anytime and destroy any bowling attack so I was confident going out with him," Chattergoon declared at the end of day two of the Second Digicel Test at the Queen's Park Oval where the home team trail Sri Lanka's 278 by ten runs and they still have three wickets in hand.

Edwards gives credit to Collymore

Fast bowler Fidel Edwards who picked up the first three Sri Lankan wickets on a severely rain affected first day of the Second Digicel Test said that he must give credit to Corey Collymore, the West Indies seam bowler who is not currently in the squad.

"I got a bit more focussed, Corey has been telling me that I need to be a bit more patient on this (Queen's Park Oval) wicket and let the ball do the talking," Edwards told journalists after the end of the day's play when Sri Lanka finished on 217 for 5 after recovering from 117 for 5.
