Donald Peters out as WICB CEO

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) today announced it had  received and accepted the resignation of Donald Peters as chief executive officer.

The resignation takes effect today.  In the interim, former CEO Stephen Camacho will assume the post.

Taylor makes return to Windies

Fast bowler Jerome Taylor has joined the West Indies team for the upcoming series against England and said he is eagerly looking forward to the challenge.

The athletic 24-year-old was comfortable as he bowled in the nets at Derby County Club on Wednesday as the West Indies had a three-hour training session in preparation for the four-day first-class match against England Lions.

Sarwan ready for major role at Number 3

Ramnaresh Sarwan is looking to do all he can to help the West Indies retain the Wisden Trophy. The right-handed stroke-maker was the star performer when the Windies won the coveted trophy during the Digicel Series in the Caribbean in February and March. Now the challenge is different -- the West Indies face England on their home soil for two Test matches in May.

Having read Fazeer Mohammed's article on April 15th 2009 titled 'Forget the Excuses', I was initially in agreement that TT should not really blame their 4th place finish in this season's tournament on the weather but on the fact that the team did not perform at crucial times in the majority of their FC matches this season and indeed in crucial must win encounters we were found wanting.

Fazeer went further to link the non-performances on  the hunger of the players and their motivation to perform at this level suggesting that some may have been more motivated by money than just pride in representing their country.

Lionel Baker - always smiling

Lionel Baker's "Colgate smile' has found its way on to the international stage again. It was a natural progression, given his appearance for the West Indies in the world U-15 and U-19 competitions. So often though, those who we see at the junior level, fall by the wayside if their career isn't managed properly. Not so for Baker, who will go down in the history books as the first Montserratian to play international cricket.

His displacement in 1997 because of the volcanic activity on his tiny island might have given him the self-discipline he needed to prepare for the road to success in cricket. As a minority in his class in England, young Baker had to stand up for his rights, resulting in expulsion after two years. That did not deter the youngster.
