Omission of the dissidents is a mistake

The West Indies Cricket Board's decision to exclude the dissident players from the squad selected for the Champion's Trophy is a mistake. While some may be sympathetic to what is an obvious punishment, the larger objective of West Indies cricket should have taken precedence. In any case, if one is swayed by the need for punishment, the non-selection of the striking players for the one-dayers against Bangladesh, after they made themselves available, seems to me to be more than enough punishment.

The status quo is unacceptable

It is erroneous to pretend or attempt to portray the notion that the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB)  has accepted and is proceeding in accordance with the Report submitted by Sir Alister McIntyre, Dr. Ian McDonald and myself.

The proper litmus test must measure the qualitative changes which have been approved and not the proportion of recommendations which have been accepted in order to determine whether or not the raison d’etre for commissioning the Report has been satisfied.

WICB fires John Dyson

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has terminated the contract of head coach John Dyson with immediate effect.

The board did not offer an explanation for the dismissal.  Assistant coach David Williams will take over on a temporary basis for the ICC Champions Trophy.  Strangely, the WICB has also replaced team manager Omar Khan for the tournament.
