BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - RECENT charges laid against former St. Kitts and Leeward Islands captain Steve Liburd are expected to be withdrawn soon.
On Monday (Jan. 27), a police press release stated that “Steve Liburd of Freeman Village was formally arrested and charged for the offence of Assault, Threatening Language and Armed With An Offensive Weapon, which were committed on 23rd January 2014 at Conaree Cricket Grounds”.
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Warner Park Cricket Stadium in St. Kitts is in the frame to be considered host for the Semi-Finals and Finals of the second edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2014.
CPL’s Chief Operating Officer Pete Russell told SKNVibes Sports that the Federation is almost certain to host games in the 2014 tournament. “It is down to the government." he said.
But Russell was more cautious when asked about a CPL team for St Kitts, saying “not necessarily this year. I think that if opportunities arise in the future it will be considered. What has been great has been the enthusiasm shown in CPL, so we are hopeful that we can have those discussions.”
India, Australia and England -the self-proclaimed 'Big Three' -- are close to officially becoming the super boys of world cricket. If reports are to be believed, the 'rebel' group is slowly losing its 'unity' and the Big Three is surely but steadily en route to securing the votes needed to push their ambitious revamp plans through, according to NDTV.
Although no Board has officially put pen to paper, several top officials on the Executive Board and representing their nations at the ICC, have, on record, nodded in approval of the proposed changes that give the Big Three supreme control in the way cricket will be played from 2015 and revenue from the game shared in accordance to the commercial 'value' a Test-playing nation brings on the table.
Based on new proposed system of ICC revenue sharing for the upcoming eight year cycle (2015-2023) WICB projects to receive at least 100% increase on the previous eight year cycle (2006-2014), according to the WICB.
Other benefits to the West Indies include the following:
Annual Test Match Fund which is specifically to support Full Members other than India, England and Australia. This will allow the WICB a financial buffer in the hosting of Test cricket against unprofitable teams.
Tours of India, England, and Australia to the West Indies are the most commercially viable for the WICB, and a system of bi-lateral agreements for tours and series will allow the WICB greater opportunity to enhance its financial position to the benefit of West Indies cricket.
Increased WICB revenue through ICC revenue sharing system will allow the WICB to realistically examine the possibility of a menu of initiatives and expansions which include but are not limited to expanded regional cricket season, player development, expanded regional cricket season, expanded West Indies A Team programme, match officials and umpires development and pitch preparation among other areas.
