Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that, following a recent meeting of the Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Tribunal on Friday, 04 April 2025, the four-match suspension previously imposed on Jamaica Scorpions captain John Campbell has been officially withdrawn.
The Tribunal was convened to hear the case involving Barbados Pride captain Raymon Reifer, in respect of a charge relating to his conduct at the CG United Super50 Final on 23 November 2024. During the proceedings, the Tribunal took the view that the procedure of bringing the charge was flawed and the matter therefore could not be heard. While the matter involving Campbell was not before the Tribunal, the issues raised during Reifer’s hearing informed CWI’s decision to withdraw the charges against Campbell. It is important to note, the view is not pertaining to the merit of the charge but rather the process of the charge being laid.
Notably, the Tribunal did not issue any ruling on the matter of prize money or match fees arising from the final. As such, CWI confirms that its previous decision to withhold all disbursements to both teams due to the final match not taking place, remain in place.
Canadian cricket captain and Barbadian native Nicholas Kirton was reportedly granted bail in the sum of BDS $100,000 after pleading not guilty to four drug-related charges in the District “F” Court on Friday.
The 26-year-old is facing charges of possession, trafficking, importation, and intent to supply nearly 20 pounds of cannabis, which authorities estimate has a street value of BDS $71,200.
Kirton appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick, where prosecutors did not object to bail but requested that his passport be surrendered and that he report weekly to a police station of his choice.
In response to the charges, Cricket Canada issued a statement on Friday, stating that the organization is “actively monitoring the situation.”
The Disciplinary Committee of Cricket West Indies (CWI) have stated than any attempt to lay charges against Barbados Pride all rounder Raymon Reifer after the non-playing of the CG United Super50 Cup final was a nullity.
This is due to the Match Referee having no jurisdiction to hear such charges, a source told Sportsmax.tv on Friday afternoon.
The ruling came after a meeting on Friday afternoon with the written decision set to come on Monday.
Cricket West Indies have also been ordered to pay Reifer’s legal costs.
Cricket West Indies officials are hopeful that Sabina Park in Jamaica will be able to host its first day-night Test when Australia visit for the third match of their series in July.
Tickets for the series went on sale earlier this week and the third Test is listed as a day-night encounter, with a 1.30pm local start time, following two red-ball matches in Barbados and Grenada. However, making it a pink-ball Test remains dependent on the completion of floodlight upgrade works to bring the venue up to international standards.
Sabina Park has never hosted any day-night international cricket due to the poor quality of the lights.
Cricket Australia is supportive of the Test being a day-nighter and it's understood officials will visit Jamaica as part of a pre-tour inspection this month. Australia have never played a day-night Test overseas.
"The Australians have agreed for it to be a day-night Test match," Chris Dehring said at a press conference on Monday. "It is of course subject to the new lighting system that's being implemented at Sabina Park, that it is finished in time and of course to specification
"We have in place a very strong monitoring and support system to help the Jamaica Cricket Association and the Jamaican government achieve this. We are certainly looking forward to hosting the very first day-night match."
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) has made sweeping changes to its governance framework, including extending the term limits for its president and vice-president from two years to three years.
The move follows that of Cricket West Indies (CWI), which in February extended the term limits for its president and vice-president from two to three years.
Additionally, the LICB has also mandated that no individual may serve as president for more than two consecutive terms.
“This adjustment fosters leadership renewal while ensuring stability and sustained strategic direction within the organisation,” the LICB said in a statement.
The changes come amidst the LICB’s move to modernise its governance framework with the first revision of its Memorandum and Articles of Association since 2015.
“This strategic advancement is the result of a meticulous review process led by a dedicated subcommittee and supported by a retained legal advisory firm,” the statement added.
