With Cricket West Indies (CWI) searching for solutions after the team’s Test series against Australia, former national batsman Mark Neita says the return of former Head Coach Andre Coley could be one of the ways for the team to improve its fortunes.
The Windies were swept 3-0 by the visiting Aussies earlier this month, including an infamous 176-run defeat at Sabina Park where they were bowled out for 27, the lowest Test total in 70 years and the second lowest in the history of the near 150-year format.
Neita says Sammy should not be fired, but says Coley would take much of the burden off Sammy’s shoulders.
“Somebody like Andre Coley has to get back into it,” he tells the Jamaica Observer. “He was an outstanding coach, did very well with this team. You want to bring people with a history of success, particularly working with the team.”
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that the West Indies Men’s squad will feature four changes heading into the three-match T20 International (T20I) series against Pakistan, to be played from July 31- August 3 at the Broward County Stadium in Florida.
The changes come relative to the squad that faced Australia in the recent five-match T20I series in the Caribbean, with fast bowler Shamar Joseph, along with batters Keacy Carty, Alick Athanaze and Johnson Charles being drafted into the squad for Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer respectively.
Alzarri Joseph has been granted rest for the T20 leg of the Pakistan home series to manage his workload ahead of a busy schedule of cricket for the rest of the year, after full participation in the recent tour of the UK and the home series against Australia. Lewis has been ruled out of the series with an injury and will return home for monitoring ahead of the 50 over leg of the series.
DESPITE BEING on the wrong end of a 5-0 drubbing in their just-concluded T20I series against Australia, West Indies white-ball captain Shai Hope is still confident ahead of his side’s three-match series against Pakistan, which begins on Thursday.
The West Indies will only have three days to regroup ahead of their opening T20I against Pakistan in Lauderhill, Florida.
With such a short break in between series, Hope said it was imperative that his troops forget about the wretched Australia series.
“We have to put this series behind us, literally a quick turnover, so we have to put our focus into what we’re going to do against the Pakistani opposition.
The T20I series between the West Indies Under-19 Women and USA Under-19 Women is now tied at 1-1 after the latter secured a 23-run win in the third T20I at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in St. Augustine on Tuesday.
The USA posted 104-7 from their 20 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat first.
Taranum Chopra led the way with 28* off 26 balls while Maahi Madhavan made 20 off 15 balls in support against two wickets apiece from Theanny Herbert-Mayers and Brianna Plummer.
The hosts were then dismissed for a disappointing 81 in 19 overs with captain Samara Ramnath being the only player to get past 10 with her 35* off 44 balls.
Aditi Kumar and Saanvi Immadi did the bulk of the damage with the ball for the Americans with 4-10 and 4-16, respectively.
The fourth game of the series is scheduled for Wednesday.
Outgoing President of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA), Conde Riley, has spoken out about his decision not to contest the presidency after serving in the post since 2017.
In a statement issued on the matter, Riley admitted the decision, though difficult, was ultimately the right one.
“Over my tenure on the board, I would like to think that I have played a pivotal role in the growth, development, and success of the organisation and the sport of cricket within Barbados but also the wider region,” reflected Riley, who served three terms.
