But I once heard coach Kersee talk about her and how he trains her in terms more befitting of a horse trainer. And we know his past.

Now if Sada could do supine special and get even a bronze

Must run out of her skin to medal. Her examples are Quincy Hall and Samukonga the way they took down the front runners in a high-class Men's 400 was awesome. They left everything on the track. Sada has to do similarly or be an also ran.

Jereem didn’t come last in his race. St Lucia, Dominica and co never medaled before but Grenada has surpassed us in Athletics. Not that I am disappointed in Grenada’s rise as an athletics powerhouse in the region, but Trinidad’s decline has been coming a long time now. As I said in an earlier post, 2012 and Keshorn’s gold were the result of 6 years of work prior to that Olympics and also a very fortuitous change in the direction of the wind that hampered the other athletes in that javelin competition. But in2004, George Bovell saved our blushes. I remember being in a hotel in Montego Bay and waking up 3 in the morning to watch George swim in the 200IM. 2008 Richard Thompson was the reigning NCAA champ and the medals came from him. Bovell was unfortunate to get in that accident that caused him not to be able to swim in the 200IM, which was his best event and having to adjust to the 50m free which he was never comfortable in, even though he medaled in it in the world champs. And he was also unfortunate to go up against dopers like Cesar Cielo in that event. But generally, we’ve had poor games with one or two very good performances that masked mediocrity.

As I said, 2012 was our best games. Richard Thompson reached the final of the fastest 100m ever, nothing to be ashamed of there. Just to reach that final was an exceptional accomplishment because of the quality of the field. Gordon got bronze in the 400m and the 4x4 men got bronze, an event we had not medaled in since 1968 and of course Walcott got the gold. The 4x1 men came fourth initially, then got third because Canada had a lane infringement and then got silver because Tyson Gay had been using an anabolic steroid prior to the games. As I also said, our best Olympic showing and the culmination of 6 years of investment by the state.

2016 was a disaster,we had to wait until the second to last event of that Olympics, the javelin to get a medal. Again I remember watching it in Zanzibar by the sea. And 2020 was even worse. Only Jereem, Paul and the 4x400 men acquitted themselves well in that meet.

It’s the public servant mentality of showing up, doing as little as possible ad getting a salary because the state retains the elite athlete program. If I was GORTT, you’d only get funding if you reached the finals of your event or had a good track record before the games. So Nicholas Paul, Jeremiah and Keshorn right now would have been the only people to get funding.

I am disappointed that Trinidad hasn't kicked on from the success of Walcott in 2012....

110m hurdles
Final
1) Grant Holloway (USA) 12.99 Gold
2) Daniel Roberts (USA) 13.09 Silver
3) Rasheed Broadbell (Jca) 13.09 Bronze

7) Orlando Bennett (Jca) 13.34
8 ) Hansle Parchment (Jca) 13.39

Men's javelin
Final
1) Arshad Nadeem (Pak) 92.97 Gold
2) Neeraj Chopra (India) 89.45 Silver
3) Anderson Peters (Gren) 88.54 Bronze

7) Keshorn Walcott (TT) 86.16

Congrats to Broadbell and Peters on their bronze medals!

Women's 400m hurdles
Final
1) Sydney McLaughlin (US) 50.37 Gold World Record!
2) Anna Cockerell (US) 51.87 Silver
3) Femke Bol (Neth) 52.15 Bronze

5) Rushell Clayton (Jca) 52.68
6) Shiann Salmon (Jca) 53.29

Women's long jump
1) Tara Davis-Woodhall (US) 7.10 Gold
2) Malaika Mihambo (Germ) 6.98 Silver
3) Jasmine Moore (US) 6.96 Bronze

8 ) Ackelia Smith (Jca) 6.66

Men's 200m
1) Letsile Tebogo (Bot) 19.46 Gold
2) Kenny Bednarek (US) 19.62 Silver
3) Noah Lyles (US) 19.70 Bronze
4) Erriyon Knighton (US) 19.99

What a day! What a world record by Sydney! So much for that rivalry with Bol....

Great to see Nadeem beating Chopra in the men's javelin, and Peters securing third.

Was Lyles irresponsible running with Covid? Still no gold medal in the 200m at the Olympics for Lyles.

Erriyon "the next Bolt" Knighton doesn't seem to have progressed much. Fourth in Tokyo in 19.93, fourth in Paris in 19.99. It remains to be seen if he can move on to the next level before the World Champs next year.

Y'all stop the Sydney hate. Most beautiful woman on the track for my money. Having said that, for some reason I always thought of the 400m hurdles as a race for those who weren't quite good enough for the 400m(maybe incorrectly). This girl would would wipe the floor with them. I'm not sure why she's still doing hurdles to be honest.

trinidad just came last in the 4x4 heat....how the hell is renny quow, a 36 year old and someone who was never part of our final wins, part of the quartet. have the 4x400 men declined so badly that we are picking semi-retired people? We've gone from being World champs 7 years ago to not even being able to qualify for a final. This olympics performance needs an inquest. that being said. TT has done decently at the last two CARIFTA games, so if those young people can be nurtured for the next four years, LA 28 could potentially games for us. There was a 17 year old who came third in her swimming heat, watch out for her in LA

Sydney's coach has allegations against him though.
What are you taking in the way of anabolics?”

This was the question that coach Bob Kersee allegedly posed to the American sprinter Darrell Robinson at a Mexican restaurant in Long Beach, California, in October 1987.

“Anavar and Dianabol,” said Robinson.

“Very good, that’s what my people also take,” Robinson said Kersee responded.

Months later, Kersee allegedly provided Robinson with bottles of those same two banned anabolic steroids, Dianabol and Anavar, which were widely used by Olympic athletes at the time, after a dinner at Kersee’s home.

TORONTO -- A Canadian sprinter said Wednesday she left UCLA Coach Bob Kersee in 1985 because he was unable to coach athletes who did not use drugs.

Angela Bailey, testifying at a government inquiry, said before accepting a track scholarship to UCLA in 1985 Kersee promised to coach her even if she did not take anabolic stereoids.

'I said that I've heard these rumors that he was a drug coach,' said Bailey, sixth in the 100 meters at the Los Angeles Olympics. 'The only reason I'm going to go down to the United States is if you can make me that promise that you can coach me without drugs. But if you can't, then I won't be there. And he basically said, 'Just believe in me, just trust me.''

Kersee is the husband and coach of Jackie Joyner-Kersee who won gold medals in the heptathlon and long jump at the Seoul Olympics.

Kersee was also flo jo's coach. make of that what you will but a large, possibly majority of the track world thinks that flo jo's transformation didn't come cleanly, including some of her own teammates like carl lewis
