It is pleasing that the West Indies finished the tour a lot better than they started. Their performances in the Twenty20 games and the victory in the NatWest Series mean they leave England with their heads held high.

I thought Chris Gayle did an excellent job as stand-in captain. The first thing that you look for is whether the players are behind their captain, and the West Indies squad showed through their commitment and energy and enjoyment that they were.

Playing cricket with politicos

When Grenada's prime minister Keith Mitchell announced that investment by CARICOM governments for staging the Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2007 entitled them to greater say in the running of West Indies cricket, he was signalling more overt participation, rather than the more discreet interventions of the past.

Taxpayers' investments have been enormous, an estimated US$800 million, and although CWC managing director Chris Dehring points to projected ticket revenues of US$32 million as the highest ever, it is hardly a proportionate return. CARICOM heads, mindful of looming elections, are moving in and even deepening their financial investments.

Powell heading to Glamorgan

West Indies paceman Daren Powell is set to sign for Glamorgan for the rest of the season, according to a BBC Sport report.

The county have been in talks with the 29-year-old Jamaican and hope to sign him in time for their first Natwest Pro40 match at Derbyshire on 16 July.

Rampaul: I'm trying to keep things simple

West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul who has had an impressive return to international cricket says that he is trying to keep things simple.

"Yesterday in the second One Day game I was just trying to bowl like any other day, bowl line and length and try not to go for too many runs, be consistent and keep the pressure on," the 22-year-old Trinidad & Tobago pacer.
