Chanderpaul joins 7,000-run club

Shivnarine Chanderpaul became the third West Indian to reach 7000 runs on One-Day Internationals on Friday. The left-hander made 127 not out against Zimbabwe in the first One-Day International and in the process reached the landmark.

He now sits on 7102 runs. The other West Indians to reach 7000 runs are legendary left-hander Brian Lara with 10405 in 289 innings and opening batting great Desmond Haynes with 8648 in 237 innings.

Team named for South Africa

The West Indies cricket selectors have named the 15-man squad for the Tour of South Africa. The Tour includes three Test Matches and five One-Day Internationals with the first game starting on December 14, 2007 and the final match on Sunday February 3, 2008.

The squad is: Christopher Gayle (Captain), Dwayne Bravo (Vice Captain), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Pedro Collins, Fidel Edwards, Daren Ganga, Rawle Lewis, Runako Morton, Brenton Parchment, Daren Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Devon Smith, and Jerome Taylor.

Parchment gets call for Zimbabwe tour

Jamaican opener Brenton Parchment has won a call-up to the West Indies team for the upcoming five-match ODI tour of Zimbabwe. Parchment joins Devon Smith and captain Chris Gayle as the three openers chosen for the tour.

 

The team, picked only for the Zimbabwe one-dayers, also sees the return of middle-order batsman Marlon Samuels. Leg-spinner Rawl Lewis also finds a place but, surprisingly, there is no place for pacer Pedro Collins.
