WIPA: There will be difficulties to overcome

WIPA president and chief executive Dinanath Ramnarine says he will accept the historic appointment to the WICB board of directors "with cautious optimism and confidence."

"While in the past, other WICB Presidents have talked about improving relations with WIPA, Dr. Hunte has ‘put his money where his mouth is’, and I feel it is incumbent on me to do my best to make the process work without compromising the principles of business negotiations," Ramnarine said in a statement accepting the appointment as a non-executive director of the board.

New WICB president sets priorities

(The following are remarks by new WICB president Julian Hunte as the board's annual general meeting last weekend)

I am honoured to have been elected President of this important regional organization and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to contribute further to the organization and development of West Indies cricket.

I thank outgoing President Ken Gordon for the contribution he has made to this Board and the organization of cricket in the Region and to wish him every success in his future endeavours. I have said privately to Ken that I hope it will be possible to consult him from time to time.

'A tragedy of unfulfilled potential'

This is the full text of the final address by outgoing WICB president Ken Gordon at the board's annual general meeting last weekend:

One of the major commitments I made at the time that I assumed the Presidency of the West Indies Board was that there would be full transparency in the manner in which the Board conducted its affairs.

We are pleased to take that promise of transparency to a new level with a resumption of the West Indian Cricket Board's Annual Report. This will hereafter be done on an annual basis.
