WI Squad to India: Shake-up Expected

There's word floating around the Caribbean that the West Indies selectors will announce a squad for the ODI tour to India with several high-profiles omissions.

The squad has been picked but an official announcement won't be made until the WICB and WIPA finalize negotiations on match/tour fees but, according to reliable information reaching CaribbeanCricket.com, the squad does not include Ramnaresh Sarwan, Corey Collymore, Fidel Edwards or Dwayne Smith.

B'dos Take Lead After 1st Round

Barbados tops the standings at the end of the first round of the Carib Beer Cricket Series 2007, after beating Trinidad and Tobago by three wickets in the first round encounter.

The Leeward Islands and Jamaica wrestled to a draw as the light faded in St Kitts with the Leewards still needing three wickets, and Jamaica looking for a further 85 runs.

WI Cricket Needs Strategic Plan

Any discussion on the future of West Indies cricket must take into consideration, among other things, the origin and causes of its decline in the first place, as well as what are the present circumstances that are leading to continuing poor performances of the team.

There is no single cause for the continuing decline of West Indies cricket over the years and, similarly, there can be no universal panacea that will bring about a revival of the game in the region and, hence, the team's performances.

Carib Beer Cup: Round 1, Day 2

Jamaica fought back today, removing Leewards' skipper Sylvester Joseph early on for 97, and eventually bowling them out for 396. Jermaine Lawson took 4 wickets for 72, while Jerome Taylor took 3 for 69. When the batsmen accepted the light Jamaica had reached 165 for 3, losing Chris Gayle for 39, Brenton Parchment for 51, and Marlon Samuels for 34.

Jamaican skipper Wavell Hinds and David Bernard Jr were unbeaten on 30 and 6 at the close of play.
