It’s now been approximately six months since Dr Kishore Shallow was elected unopposed as president of Cricket West Indies (CWI). It is the perfect time for Dr Shallow to provide fans and all others interested in West Indies cricket with a status report update on his presidential activities to date.
The necessity for Dr Shallow to provide a status report is dictated by two factors.
Firstly, his March 2023 presidential election was made against and despite the rather dubious backdrop of his role as vice-president in the previous Ricky Skerritt-led administration.
Secondly, and even more importantly, Dr Shallow made some very bold promises during his presidential campaign. Indeed, his entire campaign was centered on the foundation of an impressively constructed manifesto that boldly promised to become immersed in ‘Pushing The Boundaries’ toward the required restructuring of West Indies cricket.
Fresh off winning the Caribbean Premier League with the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Guyanese batter Shimron Hetmyer on Tuesday presented G$1.5 million to the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), renewing his sponsorship of the Hetmyer/BCB Cricket Trust Fund for the fifth consecutive year.
Hetmyer, in the company of his wife Nirvanie, visited the office of BCB President Hilbert Foster where the presentation was made.
“The couple had committed to assisting Berbice cricket as long as Foster remains as its president as they were very impressed with his leadership and vision.,” Foster posted on his Facebook page.
When one thinks of T20 players, particularly batters hailing from the Caribbean, the name Shai Hope may not immediately come to mind.
However, Leon Johnson, manager of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, firmly believes that the crafty wicket-keeper and right-handed batter deserves a more prominent role in the West Indies’ T20 lineup.
The 29-year-old Barbadian was pivotal to the Amazon Warriors’ campaign in this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL), where they clinched their maiden title.
Johnson reflected on their shared journey, saying, “I was fortunate to be there when his career started and I know he’s always a hard worker. There’s a reason why everyone is having their debate about who is the best in the Caribbean, and his name is always there for a reason.”
SYDNEY, Australia (CMC) — West Indies Women's Captain Hayley Matthews slammed an incredible 132 and led her side for the highest successful run chase of all-time in women's Twenty20 Internationals (T20I), against hosts and world champions Australia Women, on Monday.
The 25-year-old all-rounder cracked 20 fours and five sixes from 64 balls in a breathtaking assault on the Australian bowling, with the Caribbean side successfully chasing 213 to secure a seven-wicket win in the second T20I at North Sydney Oval to level the three-match series 1-1.
It came after Matthews took three for 36 from her allotted four overs with her off-spin, when Australia Women piled up 212 for six after they were put in to bat, and made her a shoo-in for a seventh-straight Player of the Match award in T20s.
"Today was quite incredible," Matthews told reporters at the post-play news conference. "I can't quite find the words yet, but I don't think many days of cricket have beaten that."
Matthews, who made 99 in the first T20I on Sunday at the same venue, followed up with an explosive second T20I hundred that surpassed fellow Barbadian all-rounder Deandra Dottin for the highest score in this format for West Indies Women.
