Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph believes the recent Twenty20 International series win for West Indies represents a “fresh start” in the wake of last year’s disastrous World Cup campaign.
The Caribbean side beat the Proteas by seven runs in Tuesday’s final game at the Wanderers here to take the three-match series 2-1 and log their first series win over the hosts in nearly a decade.
And Joseph said the T20 unit was focused on reinventing itself under new captain Rovman Powell.
“It’s a fresh start under a new captain, so we’re just trying to build a team and give everyone the confidence to go out and be themselves, play their game, and not think about if they’re going to be in the team for the next tour or not,” said Joseph.
“So I think we’re going down a good path, giving everyone the confidence and allowing them to be themselves.”
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) today announced the match schedule for the West Indies Rising Stars Under 15s Championship which will be played in Antigua from Tuesday 4 April to Wednesday 12 April.
The tournament will feature the six regional teams who will each play five rounds of 50-over matches at three venues: Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Coolidge Cricket Ground, as well as the Liberta Sports Club.
The opening round will see home team Leeward Islands taking on Windward Islands at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium; Trinidad & Tobago will meet Guyana at Coolidge Cricket Ground and Jamaica face defending champions Barbados at Liberta. All matches start at 9:30am local time (8:30am Jamaica).
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) — Two-time Twenty20 World Cup winner Johnson Charles and speedster Alzarri Joseph were among the big movers in the ICC Twenty20 International (T20I) Rankings released on Wednesday.
The duo played important roles in a 2-1 series win for West Indies against hosts South Africa over the past week.
Charles, the Player-of-the-Series, leapt an incredible 92 places to 17th in the batting rankings due mainly to his pugnacious 118 off 46 balls in the second T20I of the series at Centurion Park in Pretoria before the South Africans successfully chased a record target of 259 to win the match.
INJURED Trinidad and Tobago pacer Jayden Seales said he "can't wait" to get back in West Indies colours and bowl alongside Antiguan speedster Alzarri Joseph.
Seales, 21, was speaking to the media on Wednesday at the Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, where Republic Bank was announced as the title sponsor of the Caribbean Premier League.
Seales has been sidelined since injuring his left knee during the West Indies' tour of Australia in December 2022. He later had surgery to repair a torn meniscus and is currently rehabilitating.
Although coy about his timeline for recovery, Seales said "it might be sooner than expected." He added that he is "hoping" to be available for India's tour of the West Indies in July 2023.
Joseph, 26, who has battled injuries in the past, seems to be now stepping into his own and leading the regional attack.

The document reports on CWI’s objectives and programmes which have been implemented as the world emerges from the challenges of COVID-19. It also provides insight into future initiatives which form part of the organisation’s Cricket First Strategic Plan for the growth and sustainability of the game. One of the major highlights will be the hosting of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June 2024.
The Annual Report features specific reports on cricket, fan engagement, commercial development, finance as well as the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) Master Plan, all of which were presented to the shareholder members at the AGM which was held at the home of CWI at the CCG in Antigua.
