It may appear to be just another complaint but in describing
practice facilities in St. Lucia for Zone 'B' of the current Red
Stripe Bowl limited overs championship as "very poor", Carl Hooper
has again issued a wake-up call to regional cricket authorities.
The criticism from the Guyana and West Indies captain brings back
memories of similar sentiments he echoed three years ago on his
sudden retirement from international cricket before returning last
year.

A report into whether West Indian batsman Brian Lara took bribes
has been handed to the West Indies Cricket Board, which said it
plans to comment on its findings soon.
Elliott Motley conducted the investigation for the WICB after an
Indian bookmaker accused Lara, who hit record scores in Test and
first-class cricket, of taking $40,000 for playing badly in two
one-day internationals in 1994.

weekly column of the WEST INDIES CRICKET BOARD
With the World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya only
months away, many international teams, including our West Indies
team, will be preparing themselves to play competitively and most
of all ? to win.
This year?s Red Stripe Bowl, the West Indies limited-overs
championship, provides our players with a chance to get in gear,
impress the new Selection Committee, under Sir Vivian Richards, and
stake their claim for a place in the West Indies team that will
appear in the Cup.
After a quick glance at the 14-man squad named for the upcoming
ICC mini World Cup tournament, I have only one thought: It looks
like we're stuck with the same old West Indies selection panel.
The new panel -- led by Sir Viv Richards and including Gordon
Greenidge and holdover Joey Carew -- and (perhaps?) current coach
and captain -- left much to be desired with this squad, which shows
no imagination and worse, no vision for the short and long-term
good of West Indies cricket.

Leewards middle order strokeplayer Runako Morton was named in
the West Indies squad for the ICC Champions Trophy (mini-World Cup)
ODI tournament in Sri Lanka but the team is notable for quite a few
eyebrow-raising omissions.
The squad released on Monday is basically the same team that played
the ODI series against New Zealand with the exception of Morton
replacing Gareth Breese and the return of Mahendra Nagamootoo, who
was injured.
