A day of fluctuating fortunes saw the final test at Sabina Park
poised perfectly at close on the third day today. As things stand,
West Indies do hold the edge, but India have come back into the
game to a remarkable extent.
The day began with India on 141/4, with Ganguly and Laxman at the
crease. West Indies still led by 281, and needed only to dismiss
these two batsmen before they could get at the Indian lower
order.
Hold the obituaries! The careers of Mike Findlay and Joey Carew
as West Indies team selectors may not be over yet.
According to WICB insiders, Findlay and Carew were among seven
nominees for the West Indies selection panel, which will be chosen
on May 25. But, barring a last-minute change of heart among WICB
directors, CaribbeanCricket.com understands the three-man
panel will be made up of Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge and Joey
Carew.
The West Indies selectors pulled a minor surprise with the
inclusion of Barbadian fast bowler Corey Collymore into the 14-man
squad for the upcoming one-day series against India.
The injury-prone Collymore, who had to be recalled from playing
weekend cricket in the Washington
Cricket League in the U.S., has played in 20 ODIs for the
senior Caribbean side but, after a sub-par Busta Cup competition
this year, he lost his place in the side to newcomer Adam
Sanford.
The second day of the fifth and decisive test between the West Indies and India at the Sabina Park continued to provide cricket fans with plenty to watch. The first day ended with West Indies at 287/4, with Hooper and Chanderpaul at the crease. It seemed as if the West Indies had the platform for a large score, but if anything over 400 is defined as a large total, then at least two batsmen had to play reasonably long innings...
West Indies skipper Carl Hooper lauded opener Wavell Hinds for
scoring an impressive century in an unfamiliar position against
India in the fifth and final Test here.
"Ideally, he bats at number three, but he has shown a lot character
in this innings," said Hooper.
