‘I can’t really explain’ - Mayers

CHATTOGRAM, Bangladesh (CMC) — Debutant Kyle Mayers, the hero of the historic first Test win over Bangladesh yesterday, says he is yet to wrap his mind around the accomplishment.

The 28-year-old lashed an amazing unbeaten 210 as West Indies chased down 395 on the final day at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium to upset the hosts by three wickets and take a shock 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.

“I don't think I really understand [fully] what happened in the game so far,” Mayers told an online media conference.

“Everything that happened has been a blur. I can't really explain. The congratulations from my teammates, from the coaches, from the guys working with us here in Bangladesh, was outstanding.

“I still can't leave what I've done so far. Hopefully, when I wake up tomorrow, it will hit me.”

CG Insurance Super50 Cup: Match 1

ST JOHN'S, Antigua -- Kevin Stoute made a great start to the CG Insurance Super50 Cup with a Man-of-the-Match performance of 86 runs off 95 balls as the Windward Islands Volcanoes beat Leeward Islands Hurricanes in Match 1 at Coolidge Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Captain Sunil Ambris hit 70 off 86 deliveries while Emmanuel Stewart supported with 27 off 29 balls as they shared two crucial partnerships with Stoute. Fast bowler Quinton Boatswain looked sharp in the second half of the innings to end with four wickets.

In the Leewards reply Nitish Kumar’s superb hundred was not enough as the home side fell 31 runs short of the target.  He made 112 off 106 balls, with nine fours and two sixes, but was one of five wickets to fall for 27 runs as they were bowled out for 253 in the 48th over.

“I am very happy. It’s always great to start on a winning note,” Ambris said after the match. “I thought we played a decent game and I think we can only get better from here. I would’ve taken this at the start of the game. It’s a win, a convincing win at that.”

CWI congratulates West Indies on magnificent win

ST JOHN’S, Antigua — Cricket West Indies (CWI) today congratulated the West Indies team on the record-breaking victory against Bangladesh in the first Test match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Led by an amazing double century by Kyle Mayers on debut, West Indies made 395-7 to win by three wickets. He made 210 not out and shared a superb partnership of 216 with fellow debutant Nkrumah Bonner, who made 86

The superb batting performance was the second-highest score in a successful run chase in West Indies Test history and the highest run chase in a Test match in Asia.

In a statement, CWI President Ricky Skerritt lauded the team and their performance, which brought great joy to West Indies supporters around the world.

Skerritt said: “Congratulations to captain Kraigg Brathwaite and our entire squad for an exceptional display of composure and desire.
