CG Insurance Super50 Cup: Match 10

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Trinidad & Tobago Red Force maintained their unbeaten run in the CG Insurance Super50 Cup with a nine-wicket win over Leeward Islands Hurricanes at Coolidge Cricket Ground on Wednesday night. The Red Force bowled out the home side for 129 and then motored to 130-1 off 24.5 overs. It was their fourth win and earned them a spot in the semi-finals.

Sunil Narine, playing his 100th List A match, was brilliant as he took 3-36 from his 10 overs. One of his wickets came from a perfectly flighted off-break which turned a long way and rattled the stumps of Terrence Warde. Fast bowler Ravi Rampaul was named the CG Insurance Man-of-the-Match. He bowled an excellent new-ball spell and took 3-17 from seven overs. The top score came from opener Kieran Powell (29), while Hayden Walsh jr chipped in with 26.

Sir Curtly hails Brathwaite, Cornwall final day heroics

ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC) — Fast bowling legend Sir Curtly Ambrose has singled out interim Captain Kraigg Brathwaite and off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall for special praise, following their superb contributions on the final day which helped West Indies win the second Test against Bangladesh last Sunday.

Brathwaite drew plaudits for his inspired field settings, rotation of bowlers and overall decision-making, which also saw him snatch three wickets in an inspired spell of off-spin.

Meanwhile, Man of the Match Cornwall grabbed four wickets and three sharp slip catches as the Caribbean side produced a magnificent effort to stop Bangladesh from reaching an uncomplicated target of 231 in Dhaka.

“I thought the captaincy was good. Kraigg Brathwaite, he was innovative, rotated his bowlers quite well, and he followed his gut feeling from time to time and generally, as a West Indian, I am happy for the guys,” Sir Curtly said here during the ongoing Super50 Cup, for which he is a member of the television commentary team."

Simmons welcomes Windies selection headache

The West Indies contingent, who will be returning home this week, will all have broad smiles on their faces when they touch down in their respective territories, following their Test series win away to Bangladesh.

No smile will be broader than that of head coach Phil Simmons, who watched as his young troops masterminded back-to-back Test wins to claim their first away series win since 2017.

For Simmons, winning the series under adverse circumstances is one of his top three moments as a coach, and the Trinidadian had nothing but praise for Kraigg Brathwaite and his troops, who pulled off what many felt was a near-impossible task.

“I was pleased mainly with the work ethic and the ability of the players to absorb information and put things together,” he said. “I think the guys were completely open-minded about what we needed to do, to work and be good in the series. If you are good in the series, then you have a chance of winning.”

CG Insurance Super50 Cup: Match 9

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Windward Islands Volcanoes recorded their second win of the CG Insurance Super50 Cup as they beat Jamaica Scorpions by 92 runs at the Coolidge Cricket Ground on Tuesday night. Volcanoes made 260-8 off their 50 overs as left-hander Keron Cottoy top-scored with 64 off 47 balls with four fours and five sixes.

In reply, Jamaica had a bad start were 61-5 in the 15th over before being bowled out for 168 in the 37th over. Left-arm spinner Larry Edward celebrated his 26th birthday in style with a match-winning spell of 3-36 off 10 overs.

When Windwards batted, Andre Fletcher made 60 from 51 balls at the top of the order with four fours and three sixes. Cottoy was named the CG Insurance Man-of-the-Match, as he continued his good form to follow up his career-best 72 in the previous match against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force. Volcanoes were 171-5 after 40 overs but Cottoy raised the tempo with a number of breathtaking shots as and the last 10 overs yielded 89 runs.
