West Indies cricket legend Sir Garfield Sobers does not believe
the Caribbean side will be a competitive international team for a
"a long, long, long time."
In an interview with Australia's ABC Online, the former all-rounder
and West Indies captain said the regional authorities made a huge
mistake by not bringing along younger players when the team was a
consistent world beater. "I think (the decline) was bound to happen
because, during the year that the West Indies team was winning,
they never really tried to bring the youngsters through. All they
were saying was, 'You don't change a winning team...'
With the Second Test match just concluding in India with they
West Indies, yet again, coming out on the short end of the stick,
it is clear that it is becoming harder and harder to find any
positives associated with West Indies cricket. It is sheer torture,
to stay up all night to watch the team play.
Oftentimes many have waxed philosophical about proverbial lights at
the end of proverbial tunnels, and corners that have begun to be
turned, yet when we travel away from the comforts of our home
territory, we continue to slide from ignominious defeat to
ignominious defeat.
Guyana middle-order batsman Lennox Cush has been offered a
lucrative contract to play with Tile It Central Sports in the 2003
Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board of Control's Carib National
Cricket League competitions.
This was announced last weekend by officials of the newly-promoted
team in Chaguanas, Central Trinidad, when they introduced their new
players for the upcoming season.

After humiliating defeats against India in the first two Tests,
chief West Indian selector Vivian Richards today said he was
disappointed with his side's performance and blamed players'
attitude for the debacle.
"We have not performed well. We have to come to terms with the fact
that we are not being good enough on this particular tour."
"Because of the legacy of West Indian cricket and a glorious past,
I am feeling sad. I know it could have been better if attitudes
were much better as well," Richards said, according to media
reports out of India.
