Jamaica Could Miss World Cup Fun - Dehring

Jamaica could miss miss out on hosting World Cup matches when the tournament comes to the Caribbean in 2007 unless it shapes up its facilities and make a well-considered local bid to host matches, a senior WICB official has warned.

Managing director and CEO of Windies World Cup 2007 Chris Dehring issued the warning in a report in Monday's Jamaica Gleaner. "Look what's happening around the Eastern Caribbean. St. Lucia builds the most fantastic cricket stadium you could ever imagine in the Caribbean and they going to start taking cricket away from Jamaica, who has been hosting Test since 1928."

The third test at the Eden Gardens did not quite have the finish that West Indies supporters may have been dreaming about, but the truth is that there was a fair amount to cheer about in what turned out to be an enthralling test match for all but the last half day. 'Hooper Blunders Cost Windies'

Carl Hooper's captaincy tactics was called into question Sunday after the third Test dragged to a boring draw with former Indian batting mainstay Sanjay Manjrekar saying Hooper's blunders may have cost the West Indies a win.

In a column for Wisden Online (paid subscription required), Manjrekar said there were only three possible results when India walked out to bat on the final day but "a few errors of judgement from Carl Hooper" allowed India to save the match.
