PART III - TEST PREPARATION & INCENTIVES
The next generation of West Indies Test players will now be
emerging better prepared to handle Premium Class cricket based on
any planned system similar to that mentioned in
Parts I and II of this series.
The players would be the first generation of a plan consisting of
well rounded coaching and an upgraded teaching/training strategy.
But it must not stop there...
Amidst the rain and cloudy skies, hundreds of Antiguans &
Barbudans came out to bid farewell and say goodbye to Leonard
Churchill "Tim" Hector, a great son of the soil.
His life was eulogised at a ceremonial service at the Antigua
Recreation Grounds (ARG) Wednesday afternoon. Officers from the
Royal Antigua & Barbuda Police Force and members of the Antigua
& Barbuda Defence Force bore the flag draped casket.
Ailing West Indies batsman Brian Lara is expected to depart
Monday for London to undergo further medical tests. And, depending
on the results, Lara will then have to get clearance from his
medical men in England and the WICB before he can be considered for
future West Indies selection.
The world double record holder was diagnosed with a "mystery"
illness believed to be a strain of Hepatitis during the ICC
Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka last September and was advised by
doctors there to rest from the game for six weeks.
With a 3-2 lead going into the sixth and penultimate ODI against
India, the West Indies will feature an unchanged eleven from the
one that overhauled a good Indian total on Monday.
Only one win needed to clinch the seven game series and the West
Indies are looking to capitalise on their last success and wrap up
the series. The toss will play a big factor and whoever wins it
will most likely opt to bat last, as this has been the common
factor for all the wins so far in the high scoring series.

The Viv Richards-led West Indies selection panel has shown extreme
meekness and some mild ineptitude in naming the squad and choice of
captain for the tour of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is miles behind the other test playing nations and
provides the perfect opportunity to give the burgeoning youngsters
a chance to prove their worth. There has been much talk that a
number of young players who have shown promise were not being
thrown into the fray at the highest level because they lack
experience. This is folly of the highest degree...
