John Campbell made a splendid century to highlight the opening day of the four-day match on Monday. The left-hander top-scored with 129 as the Roston Chase XI reached 280-7 at the close. Resuming on Tuesday morning will be Imran Khan on three not out and with him Jermaine Blackwood on 18 not out.
Campbell dominated the bowling and hit 15 fours and three sixes – two from audacious reverse sweeps off left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul and the other a lofted drive from left-arm spinner Kavem Hodge. Overall, Campbell faced 253 balls and batted for 325 minutes before he was caught by Paul Palmer running back from midwicket as he tried to sing a ball from off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall into the on-side.
Sri Lanka Legends defeated West Indies Legends by five wickets with six balls to spare in the Road Safety World Series in Raipur, India on Friday.
Brian Lara scored a relatively patient 53 and Dwayne Smith, a quick-fire 47 as the West Indies posted 157 for 4 from their 20 overs. The pair put on a 66-run third-wicket stand after William Perkins (19) and Narsingh Deonarine (2) were both run out within the first six overs to leave the West Indies on 38 for 2.
Lara’s half-century came off 49 balls and included eight fours but it was Smith who dominated the partnership scoring his 47 runs from just 27 balls from which he smashed four fours and three sixes before departing with the West Indies 104 for 3 in the 14th over.
Lara remained unbeaten at the end but with the help of Mahendra Nagamootoo (9) and Tino Best, who was unbeaten on 18, took the score to 157.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Fabian Allen sealed victory for West Indies in spectacular fashion – with three magnificent sixes in the penultimate over of the third and final CG Insurance T20 International on Sunday night. The all-rounder made 21 not out off six balls and Jason Holder provided calm support at the other end to finish unbeaten on 14.
West Indies made 134-7 off 19 overs in reply to Sri Lanka’s 131-4 to win by three wickets, with six balls to spare at the Coolidge Cricket Ground. Allen was named the CG Insurance Man-of-the-Match and West Indies won the series 2-1.
Surrey have signed Kemar Roach, the West Indies fast bowler, for the first seven games of the County Championship season.
Roach will be the club's second overseas player for the early part of the season, alongside Hashim Amla, who initially joined Surrey on a Kolpak deal ahead of the 2020 season.
While Surrey already have several fast-bowling options on their books, they have opted to bring in Roach's experience following Morne Morkel's departure, and with Sam and Tom Curran due to miss the start of the Championship season to play in the IPL.
West Indies T20 captain, Kieron Pollard, insists the team will resist the impulse to chop and change without giving players enough opportunity to showcase their ability.
The regional team ending up beating Sri Lanka in the first T20 by a fairly comfortable margin, in the end, but things did not always look so straightforward. Overall, a few of the players did not have the expected impact straight out of the gate for the Windies. This was particularly the case with the batting line-up where three players, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran and Fabian Allen were dismissed for ducks.
Pollard is adamant he is, however, in no hurry to change things around, particularly after one game. In fact, he believes the practice is one that has hurt the team in the past.
“If we are honest with ourselves, that’s one of the problems that has plagued us over the years, the constant chopping and changing when things don’t go right after one or two games,” Pollard told members of the media via a Zoom press conference on Thursday.
