PUNE, India (CMC) — Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was again a non-starter, and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stumbled to a 13-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday.
Bravo missed the previous match for the Super Kings against Sunrisers Hyderabad due to an injury and it appeared he was still unfit again to play against Royal Challengers.
Chasing 174, CSK openers — Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway — emerged from a cautious start their side to 51 without loss after the power play.
But CSK started to unravel after Shahbaz Ahmed got Gaikwad caught at long-on for 28 in the seventh over and Australian Glenn Maxwell had Robin Uthappa caught at backward point for one in the next over.
Maxwell then bowled Ambati Rayudu for two, as CSK reached the halfway stage of their chase on 77 for three.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) — West Indies have held steady in the ICC Men’s World Rankings across all three formats of international cricket after the annual update carried out on Wednesday.
The ICC (International Cricket Council), the sport’s world governing body, revealed in a media release that the Windies were eighth in the Test rankings, ninth in One-day Internationals (ODIs), and seventh in Twenty20 Internationals after the rankings update, remaining firmly fixed in the positions they held before the update.
Rating points earned from winning matches during the 2018-19 season were dropped in the annual update, the ICC media release stated, and the rankings now reflect all series completed since May 2019.
The ICC media release noted that series completed prior to May 2021 are now weighted at 50 percent and subsequent series at 100 percent.
After the update, West Indies lost four rating points in both Tests and ODIs, dropping to 77 in the long format and 73 in the 50 overs-a-side format, but they improved five rating points, climbing to 240 in T20Is.
New West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran received high praise from his former franchise manager and national manager upon his big appointment.
Pooran, 26, was named captain of the West Indies T20 and ODI teams on Tuesday and will have a big task ahead in preparing for the ICC T20 World Cup in October and the ICC Cricket World Cup next year.
In an interview with Newsday, former West Indies and TT manager Omar Khan said, “He has been moulded as a future West Indies captain when he was appointed vice-captain of the team. He strongly led Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL last year and was very instrumental in the performances of the team. Nicholas is a natural leader and has the passion and power to do well”.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) today confirmed the appointment of Nicholas Pooran as the West Indies Men’s One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) captain, following the international retirement of Kieron Pollard.
Pooran will take over the captaincy for the West Indies ODI and T20I teams after being Pollard’s deputy over the last year. The appointment will include the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2022 and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in October 2023. Shai Hope has been recommended to stand as vice-captain of the ODI team.
CWI’s Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams said: “We believe Nicholas is ready for the challenge of leading our white-ball teams given his experience, performances, and the respect he has within the playing group. The Selection Panel believes that Nicholas has matured as a player and was impressed with his leadership of both teams when Kieron Pollard had been absent. The experience he has gathered playing in various franchise leagues around the world was also a factor in the decision to recommend him for the T20 captaincy.”
The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) will be hosting a Female Youth Cricket Camp during the month of May.
According to a release from the Association, “This camp, which is for females between the ages of 12 to 18 years old, will focus on identifying and developing the talent of females who have the desire to learn and the passion to play representative cricket at the highest level.”
The camp is open to females who attend schools or reside in the geographic location of the city of Georgetown or are registered with Cricket Clubs affiliated with the GCA.
Females desirous of participating are required to attend an orientation session along with their parents/guardians on May 4 at the Malteenoes Sports Club, Thomas Lands, from 16:00h.
